With our trip round the world coming up, I've got to do a copy of our itinery so that family people know where we'll be and when. We include time difference from home so that they know what time it is where we are in case they need to contact us.

However, this is where a plea to my fellow V-Flyers comes in, because i'm finding it all rather a muddle [?] - basically due to the fact that we are on BST (British Summer Time) which is GMT +1 hour, and not all places change their clocks during the year!

I was hoping that you useful and well travelled people would be so kind as to check that I'm right on the list below? All times are + or - BST (I think!) [:)]

Hong Kong +7
Singapore +7
Sydney +10
Ayers Rock +9.5
Cairns +10
Auckland +12
Cook Islands -10
LA -8

Thanks!
James

Looks about right to me...didn't realise that Ayers rock had a 1/2 hour time difference.

BTW...what are your plans for there.

The in-laws just got back. They said if they had known there was nothing there they would of flown in in the morning flown out at night.

EDIT : Forgot to mention, as the person taking the trip you have the right to call home when you feel like it with total disregard for the actual time at the place you are calling.

Sydney is currently 9hrs ahead of BST. So if it is 21:45 now here in London then it is 06:45 in the morning on June 6th in Sydney, NSW.

Auckland is currently +10 ahead of BST. When our clocks go back an hour at the end of BST Australia will put theirs an hour ahead and so in Sydney it will be 11hrs ahead of the UK (GMT+11).

Little hint - type say 'Time in UK' into Google.

If I do this for UK currently I get 23:45 - for New Zealand (where I am) I get 10:45 suggesting New Zealand is actually 11 hours ahead. Time in Australia gives 8:45. 12:48pm Thursday (CKT) - Time in Cook Islands - 6:48am Friday (SGT) - Time in Singapore

etc etc

Thank you for your help V-Flyers, I knew I could count on you. [y]Decker I didn't realise google had the 'time in...' function where it just comes up with the time in a certain place, thanks for that!

It seems that the times will actually be (so wasn't tooo far off, just got stuck on too many websites that go on about BST and GMT...):

Hong Kong +7
Singapore +7
Sydney +9
Ayers Rock +8.5
Cairns 9+
Auckland +11
Cook Islands -10
LA -8

Scrooge - we've got 2 nights in Ayers Rock, arriving at about 1pm on a Thurs and leaving about 3pm on the Sat. Personally i'd only have wanted the one night but the gf made the point that we've only got one full day with 2 nights so I guess we won't get bored! We've found the accomodation and tours ridiculously expensive, so will just use the Uluru Express shuttle which seems decent and much cheaper than AAT/APT!

Apologies for my mistake. Decker is absolutely correct. New Zealand is 2hrs ahead of Australia.

IIRC this all gets even more confusing when the UK changes their clocks a week before NZ does.

When living in Christchurch (NZ) I remember a week when my weekly phone call home had to take place at some ungodly hour due to the UK being 13 hours behind us.

Great suggestions all round ... this is one issue whence I get totally confused, especially when trying to schedule a teleconference with UK, India, Australia and the US ... which I seem to do often.

By far and away the best device I have found helps is my iPod Touch, the clock function is great and has the most simple of features like telling you the time and whether it is 'today' 'tomorrow' or 'yesterday'!
