Hush my mouth...

The new White or Black Virgin Atlantic American Express card (issued by Bank of America) earns cardholders 1.5 miles per dollar spent - not in just certain categories - but for all everyday spend.

[V]
In addition, unlike the credit card they currently offer to members in the U.K., this credit card will allow members to earn tier points toward elite status, earning one tier point for every $2,500 in credit card spend.

TP's by spending on the CC? $2500 isn't that much so there could be A LOT of TP's being dished out and people moving up the FC ladder. I have a feeling there are going to be some unhappy UK FC members...

Tier points on credit card spend? Did somebody forget what tier points are when they struck this deal?

Not. Impressed.

Andrew, you link five posts up only takes you to the top of this page (page three in case my post goes over to page four)?

Not impressed at all with the TP's for US customers only. If they can have TPs over there why not in the UK?!

However surely this further de-values the whole point of being a Gold card holder on a FREQUENT FLYER programme?!

Bonus miles on renewing, lower annual fee and APR than the UK card, The ability to earn 24 TPs in a year without even flying. I want one!

Yes, that's the feeling of all UK customers being shafted. [:w]

And the likes of me who can't even get a VS credit card [V]

ISTBC - but this is the first time that VA have made Tier Points accessible through a non-flying source. Not at all impressed - it seems niave in this modern age to either believe that UK members would not become aware of the discrepancy or consider how they might react to the snub.

The earning levels are also a bit higher too - at $2 to the pound the earning represents double that of a UK white card and 50% higher on the black.

I for one am not impressed.

Be interesting to see if VS will comment about the disparity between the UK and US card if asked about it.

I would be very interested to read a response from customer services if anyone on here choses to send an e-mail.

Hang on a second...

Yes I agree with your first point, earning TP's for spending is naive.

Forget the earning levels, I am paid in dollars, my $1 buys a double cheese burger at McDonalds, pay me in pounds then let me change it to dollars, my dollar will still only buy one double cheese burger, to me the earning is the same.

Yes the Apr is lower, but that is mostly due to the fact that APR's in the UK are higher all around, this will be my only CC with a double digit APR.

In the end it comes down to one thing.

VS needed to address the fact that her in the US it is hard to earn miles without flying. They are also looking at grabbing a little bit of the US FF market to help with the trans Atlantic routes in J, in order to breed some loyalty they need to offer a CC, as BA do, joining up with VX would not hurt either.

I've just sent one from their web site. I see they have removed their email address and now use a web form. I'll post the standard 'thank you for you comments but we don't care' reply in 3 weeks time. Hopefully more people will let them know their feelings too.

It's not actually. When the Flying Club Swingers first started Tier Points were awarded for each round of golf played on a VS destination course on submission of a photgraph from the said course. Aer John needed 5 TPs to become gold and blitzed the courses in MCO [:I] [:w] It continued for at least one more year but now they offer bonus score points

My sentiments exactly. It will be interesting to see how many new golds this creates. [n]

To be fair, they can't control the interest rates. These rates actually put me off getting the card because they are higher than anything I currently have over here.
