Folks.

For only the fourth time in my life I lost a piece a baggage last night. Problem was that it had equipment for a job here in Germany to setup. I flew JER-LGW/LHR-FRA-FDH yesterday and the bag got lost FRA-FDH. I know it got lost on the last segment because BA wouldn't interline the bag wit LH so I had to pick it up at FRA and re-check it.

I am now returning, but the entire trip has been worthless. A day and a half of work lost, plus 1,000+ in airfares wasted.

I'm not normally a claims culture type but this has really irritated me. Has anyone had any experience of what the likelihood would be on getting any decent recompense or would I be wasting my time and energy?

Kinda getting sticky here. Too much information, I know.

According to the CAA any claim against lost luggage is limited to what the Montreal Convention says. The maximum payout is 1000 SDR's or about £820

It's only based on value - no airline will cover any consequential loss.

They would point you to professional insurance policies for that I'm afraid.

Of course. The airline will argue, and quite successfully, that it was not in their reasonable contemplation that the lost bag would render the trip worthless.
