As we've a few (5) days free during our autumn trip to FL, Mr DL has decided that a side trip to Nashville and Memphis is in order. Is it worth the schlep (he wants to drive up and then fly back to MIA. I'd rather fly both ways than sit in a car for hours and hours )? What is there to do (apart from Gracelands)? I'd rather fly to Houston(or anywhere else in Texas) for a few days but not having much luck persuading him.
Grateful for any advice.
Thanks

Yep

Also, at Nashville there is an awesome BBQ place in the terminal, Whites BBQ is the name off the top of my head.

well I'm torn for next year's summer trip between Nashville/Memphis/Smoky Mountain trip or Southern California, whats swinging it for me is the thought of Dollywood, so very intersted to hear any views on here!

Thanks for the info so far. Maybe this could turn out to be quite a nice trip (methinks MR DL will get his way this time).

Hi all,

Personally I prefer Nashville over Memphis, although Graceland was interesting even if I was dragged along by my girlfriend! Also in Memphis worth a visit is the Civil Rights Museum where Martin Luther King was murdered (Lorraine Motel). For a bit of fun in Memphis you must visit the Peabody Hotel where the daily marching of the ducks takes place, its a national institution!http://www.peabodymemphis.com/peabody_hotels/the_peabody_ducks.cfm

I found Nashville alot more laid back, relaxing and friendly. Lots of places to visit, Grand ole Opry, Counrty Music Hall of Fame. It really is a music city! Great bars and restaurants also.

Billybob, if you get the chance to visit Dollywood then do it, I thought it was great. Lots to do, great white knuckle rides, plenty of things for children and just a place with a great atmosphere! You don't have to be a dolly fan to visit although my girlfriends mother couldn't help but keep singing 'Jolene' all day! [:I]

We stayed in an amazing cabin up in the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg, beautiful views, can't recommend enough. http://www.brotherscove.com/

Hope this helps! [:D]

Marc

thanks for the info, the cabins are just what I was looking for but there are so many to choose from, don't know where to start. How remote were they, could you drive easily to shops, restaurants etc,

Oh and by the way I intend to spend all my time singing 'In my Tennessee Mountain home' in true Dolly style, think my sons may disown me though!

All changed?

You mean Marc Cohn's no longer walking in Memphis, either? [:0]

You might visit these lovely buildings in Memphis. Quintessential, Wright-inspired Americana.
