Things that annoy me on VS....

Virgin really should go with forward facing cameras.

I used to fly regularly with Emirates who have them on all their planes and have seen some interesting, amusing and on one occassion slightly alarming sights.

Coming in to DXB at night is great because the approach normally skirts around the city and there is a huge strobing arrow pointing to the runway threshold.

Slightly alarming was a an approach into MLE which anybody familiar with this airport will know is on its own island with a relatively short runway with ocean at each end. On this occassion there were difficult wind conditions which resulted in the plane appearing to be at an acute angle and rolling from side to side as it approached. We didn't touch down until about a third of the way down the runway and then there was some serious decceleration to be done. Very interesting. Should have been at least PG.

I also recall a nice view coming into LGW on Mytravel early one winter morning when the sun was just rising. Had a very long, straight approach - no holding patterns that day.

If Mytravel can surely Virgin can?

Having the heating turned up may make people sleepy on a night flight but it's always TOO warm. Then people can't sleep. I find it especially warmin J. It's not too bad if you are in Y at the back as it's a bit cooler.

I have mentioned this to customer services but no response.

I've been on other airlines which have shown the Skymap right from the start and I too wish that it was on all the time.

A camera on the nose would be cool too as would the equivalent of UA's Channel 9. Having said that I've never been on a UA flight where it was available as on each occasion the captian has refused the request to turn it on. [:(]

I agree - it is always sooo hot, be it in VA or BA, I am sweltering, but then I see people snuggling up in their duvet and blankets with their sleep suits and pullovers on, looking very comfortable, so I think is it just me? Gladly by this thread, I see it is not!

With regards to the heat in the cabin, Virgin do not deliberately set out to make the cabin warm to make you sleep. We just try to find a temperature that is comfortable for all. With 300+ onboard this can be somewhat difficult to achieve. The majority of FSM's will try to take responsibility for this solely however occassionally one FA will turn the temperature up meanwhile another pax will complain to someone else that it is cold in the cabin so it gets hiked up again!

As mentioned on a different thread, the crew have to work in the cabin too, as it is such a physical job we really prefer a normal temperature as well. I have been a passenger on many airlines other than Virgin and temperature control seems to be a problem that plagues us all.

Welcome to V-Flyer! With regard to the old/new Y seats, I don't know if there is any difference in the size etc but I'm pretty sure that seat pitch isn't exactly the same throughout the whole cabin, ie some seats have an extra inch or two's worth of legroom. The LHR based 744s all have the same number of seats down the back though.

Re the safety demo, it's not my area of expertise but there should (AFAIK) be a video exactly the same as on the v:port a/c. Maybe the crewonly found out at the last minute that the video didn't work and had to rush it[?] I was on a Malaysian flight when this happened and the crew did a manual demo after we'd departed! [:0]

Glad that you had Skymap all the way...maybe I've only flown v:port a/c recently

Thanks for your reply from the crew's point of view. Yes I agree that it is virtually impossible to please 300+ pax and I'm sure there are parts of the cabin where the temperature can differ. It always seems to be fine on day flights though. Glad to hear VS isn't the only airline that struggles with this!

As there does seem quite a lot of interest in been able to view cameras outside the A/C any change you could put in in the suggestion box for future A346's please [?]

As has already been mentioned, cameras are already there (on the A346's anyway) and it's just a case of connecting them to V:Port.

Just for info, had skymap available on departure from SFO and arrival into LHR on G-VTOP on last Saturday's VS20 (apart from during the "forced" intro video and Sky News).

Was nice to have it available.

It was suggested when the 346 was introduced but the official line was that it wasn't deemed suitable for the majority of passengers, or some such waffly cobblers. [V] I'll try asking again but I'm not holding out too much hope...

Believe it or not some of the residents of Charlwood a small village at the end of LGW have written a letter to their local MP complaining about the cameras onboard US and MYT that leave from there!

Anyway, ref pax not leaving the plane if they were watching a movie :-
1. Just turn it off.
2. Went to a Metallica concert once outside Belfast and there was a bomb alert (during the Troubles) and they had to evacuate the hall. Guess what. Nobody left. So there may be something in that.
