This time we organised a car from the East End to LHR, which was only 32 - much easier than the tube and HEX. Drive there was uneventful and the check-in area as usual was empty. Checked in at separate desks - well bag dropped as already checked in on line to ensure we still had seats upstairs - I was very quick and the other half took ages for no real reason.

Up through the private security with laptops in (no idea why the US still can't do this), and missed the shoe check. Did small amount of shopping, then headed to the lounge. Initially busy but then SFO and LAX flights called, and it emptied out. Had a selection from the deli for a light breakfast with a bloody mary (medium this time, which was just right!), and then headed off for the facial. This is now listed as only 20 minutes (thought it was longer previously) - in the end it was nearly 30 minutes. Very relaxing!

Off to use the internet and make some calls - like the fact that the phones in the office have direct external lines. Light lunch with some cocktails - nice new Caribbean chicken sandwich - spicy and very tasty!!

Flight was called, and the plane had pretty much boarded - although there was a queue on the jetty. Up the stairs and the pre-flight champagne. Saw that it was vPORT....excellent!!! Given that this seat was in the new upper class section upstairs, the seats were in a very tatty state! Short flight time today of only 6.5 hours - not long enough really!!

Taxi and take-off on time. Drinks shortly after - I was offered crisps or nuts, the other half only crisps. Lunch was served (menu previously described on here) - the baby gem salad was very good, beef very tasty and flavoursome. Deserts a little disappointing - ice cream or crushed meringue and strawberries. One thing I noticed was that there are no wine carriers upstairs - you have to make the choice from the list only. No refills throughout dinner without asking, along with the water.

The drinkers on the flight headed straight down to the bar when the seat belt sign went off, and therefore it was very quiet upstairs. They only returned when we hit some turbulence in the flight. After finishing the film I was watching (The Hitman), I had a well earned sleep for about 2.5 hours, and was awoken at the end of the afternoon tea....just managed to squeeze in a scone (apple and cinnamon which was different!).

Overall a very pleasant flight - the crew upstairs did an adequate job, but the service was nothing special, especially having to ask for wine top ups etc. Enjoyed the experience of being upstairs and would put up with the slightly reduced service up there for the benefit of being up there.

Hi gingerflyer

May I ask what car company you used and where-abouts in the East End you travelled from (well not your address obviously, just the locale...)?

My mother flying from Heathrow with a cousin (who lives at Hornchurch) and they are currently looking at options to get to Heathrow...

Thanks
Boo
