Hotels in Boston

Hi all - I'm after some personal recommendations from you!

I've been to Boston many times (fave US city) and have a trip planned for December. I've stayed mostly in the chain hotels - mostly Hilton because of hhonors - and I'm perfectly happy with the choices I've made so far (apart for the hideous Park Plaza). However, I'd like to try somewhere different this time.

I don't mind using the T to get anywhere as I feel perfectly safe using it - including from/to the airport and out to places such as the JFK Library etc. I'm not worried about being near the shops or tourist attractions although in December it's nice to have a base close by to warm up! Mostly I just plan to visit places I love and shop ([:I])

Sooooo - over to you. Any hotels you really rate? And Why?

Hi,

I always stay at the Sheraton Boston, in the back bay area (bleieve its the largest hotel in New England). Good rooms, and linked to the Hynes convention centre and the prudential/copley place shopping malls - so I don't even have to step outside if its cold or raining!

Just don't go there if there is:
a) A Senator in town and hosting a party campaign there as the place becomes like Fort Knox
b) Try not to stay over the same weekend as the Cloning and Genetics conference, as large groups of protestors outside is not a good thing.

Have stayed at the Hilton Back Bay opposite too which is quite nice.

I love the Back Bay area, and may try out the Westin Copley Place or the Fairmont too.

Hi Daisy

I found a smallish very nice Boutique style hotel in Boston. It's called the Nine Zero. It's part of the Destination Hotels and resorts group. Web site is here. It's located on Tremont street (the main street running up past Boston Common). Great location as it's very close to shops etc. The service was fantastic. Rooms were also fantastic and offer all the usual away from home/office gizmo's like free high speed internet, CD players, etc.

Just come back from the Fairmont Copley Plaza, much improved from my previous visit,but my choice in BOS is The Lenox great location good rooms good bar downstairs(Solas).Book run of the house rooms direct with the hotels site (http://www.lenoxhotel.com) some very good rates the last time we stayed we got 2 of the best rooms in the hotel for less than £100 a night.

I love Boston, but if you don't have a car and you are on a budget, you choice is limited - especially during the week.

The bottom end of the 'clean and decent' range for me is the Motel 6 out at Braintree, which can usually be picked up for < $100. Its advantages are that is is VERY close to the T and the marketplace at Braintree which features Borders, Best Buy, Sports Authority, KMart, Comp USA and the fantastic Hilltop Steak House.

The disadvantage is that it is right at the bottom of the Red line and involves a double train change when you come in from Logan - not easy if you have lots of luggage, and it is also quite a long way from the city centre.

As an avid Marriott man, I like the Courtyard at Brookline, which is not too far out of town on the green line. It isn't too dear and Brookline is a lovely little community within the city - quite upmarket and we have always found it to be very welcoming.

The Courtyard is new, it is a typical chain hotel with very little soul, but more than comfortable.

For city centre hotels, like LROM I like the huge Sheraton- but it isn't cheap.

My brother likes the Guest Quarters, which I think he booked through expedia for a reasonable rate by BOS standards.

The Quincy Marriott is a nice hotel and often gives good rates, it looks tempting as you can see it from the T, BUT the walk is uphill and IMHO a little too far to do comfortably.

Since the last company I worked for were based just outside of Boston, I got to go over there rather a lot until about a year ago. Normally I'd stay out of town (Marlboro) while working, but move into the city centre at weekends since I had the time free. Used to stay at the Wyndham on Broad Street - a $300 hotel during the week, but prices dropped to $129 at the weekend (and because I'd got myself one of their loyalty cards, almost always got upgraded to a Suite too).

Lovely hotel, great bar & restaurant too.

If you're on a budget, the Radisson on Stuart Street normally offers good deals.

This is all excellent stuff - so thank you all!

I'm not on a budget (what woman is [:X]) - what I'm really after is a room which is ultra clean, superb bathroom with power shower and ideally a concierge level for breakfast etc. I'd like the hotel to be fairly quiet (not too many Christmas parties) and I'd like it to be "smart casual" (if you see what I mean - not too stuffy or rigid)

Although I go to Boston quite a bit this is a special trip for me (significant birthday to celebrate) so I want it to be really special.

I think I'll take a look at the Westin, the Nine Zero and the Wyndham (I've joined their loyalty program but haven't used them since)

No budget issues, get a club room at either of the Ritz Carltons both are superb and have all day club lounges with food and drinkies I have just posted a picture of the original Ritz.

Definitely go for either one of the Wyndhams or one of the Ritz Carltons, never tried the Ritzs, but I hear that they are superb! Otherwise, you could always try somewhere out of town.
