Well I am in one of those 'its the end of summer and nothing to look forward to' moods so have decided to start doing some research for our next trip State side.

Does anyone know of any car hire company in the US that does not charge through the roof for under 25's to hire a car (both spring chickens at 24)?

We normally use VH and purchase the platinum fly drive package to get round this but I want to make sure its the cheapest option for us. Using VH does have its disadvantages with using FC miles to upgrade etc and if we want to tag on a return from JFK say.

So does anyone know of any particuarly cheap under 25 car hire companies or know of a site where I can find some?

Whilst Dollar, Alamo et al do offer it the price is nearly triple what it would be if we were 26.

I know U.S Rent a car offer a 'special' inclusive package for under 25's. It allows 1 under 25 to drive, but must be purchased as part of their gold package. Not sure how much more expensive that a regular rental it works out at but worth a look!

Is this the same as U.S CAR HIRE? because these guys appear cheaper than any other site every time, and the quoted price is always the end price with no surprise CWD insurance to pay at the airport, which you may not always realise when looking for the cheapest price.

I'm using them both this trip.Van we collected at LAX last night was through USrentacar and the van we pick up in SFO is through UScarhire.I've used USrentacar before and have had no probs. They do some good deals with under 25s and also for one way rentals with no extra charge.US carhire will also allow you to add your Dollar Express number which speeds things up a bit too.

I always use a company called http://www.carhire3000.com . They have always been very good to me consitently coming up the cheapest. If you ring them (Manchester based IIRC) they will answer any questions you may have regarding insurance Etc. I rang them on one occasion about a CDW issue and because they are a 'broker' they gave honest answers and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need.
Just done a dummy booking for a 24 yr old against 38 yr old and it's coming out the same price. May be hidden extras but It would surprise me.
