I noticed premium economy fares ex SYD have gone up hugely over the last year....

SYD to LHR on VS, BA and NZ are all about 5200-5500 for March next year, so it got me thinking:

SYD to LHR on VS was A$5493

SO I checked each leg separately

SYD to HK A$1902

HK to LHR HK$15,000 or about A$2220 (about 200 less if you take the VS flight to HK and not the VS 200 that continues on to Sydney)

Total separate A$4122 (about $1400 less; and an upgrade one way to SYD is $1700 more hehe)

So, If I was to buy two separate tickets, would I be able to have them linked in some way - both would be bought from the VS website.

Does anyone work for VS - that could confirm if this is do-able, and thus have boarding passes for both issued in SYD, with luggage checked all the way through?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Ansett,

This is perfectly possible. Book them seperately and save some cash. Check-in at SYD will able to check your bags through and issue seating direct to LHR.

All reward bookings to and from SYD have to be booked as seperate legs so this happens frequently. [:D]

In most cases I would advise against this because if for some reason your first flight is delayed you have nothing covering you on the second flight, however, seeing as it is the same aircraft running the second leg I would give FC a call, point this out to them, give them a chance to match the fare, if they cannot, then book away.

Hmmmmm interesting, using my best Sherlock Holmes power of deductions I would guess that the person asking this question and the person asking THIS question could be one and the same.....

Ok where is my prize, give me my deer stalker...

Of course your easy to spot...now find me [?]

Anyways, joking aside, A'Net is a great site for general info VF is better for VS info...

And to answer another of your questions from there, no you do not have to clear customs and immigration as you are a transiting pax.

Just a hair brain thought, but have you looked at a RTW fare ?

Those round the world fares are amazing value esp with VS and Malaysian! wow but it says one needs to originate in US..... and Im from Sydney! :(

As for booking it myself using the multi flight leg feature on their website i.e. SYD HK LHR all the way through and back LHR HK and HK SYD the next day.... it doesn't give you space for more than 2 legs! how is this multi? And how can i do this?

Also, I seem to remember VS's old booking page used to give you the option of selecting a stop over when booking SYD to LHR flights.... is there a way to still do this online?

thanks in advance

Make sure you select the 'Flights on these exact dates' radio button on the booking page and this will give you the option to select a number of stopover days in HK.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Re using the exact dates button, that worked a gem as it allowed me to select stop over, AND it reduced the fare by 1000$!

Its not AS low as booking 2 sep tix but its all on one PNR and it means I can stop over one way....

Its so weird as by selecting the same flights but all the way through a day earlier and on the same day (i.e. using same flights) it comes up as $5500!

So I think this is the solution. Great!
