Or at least a responsibility to maintain the seating on the Gatwick fleet in a reasonably serviceable and clean condition.

I'm sure people wouldn't complain at all if their seat was clean, comfortable, and not broken in some way.

I still think that the old-style seats that are in the bubble on the LGW fleet are in many ways superior to both the 'plastic terror' (no flowers please), and the new leather-clad 'superseat'.

People are getting on these aircraft expecting to be disappointed and ready to find fault, such a reputation they are getting on the travel boards.

Old and well maintained I can live with. Continually broken and shamefully dirty is inexcusable.

On both the LGW - HAV legs I travelled recently the seat was a little shabby but clean, comfortable and not broken. Not unlike myself.

Good to hear! Some of the reports we've seen here seem to make out the cabins on the LGW ships to be utter flea pits.

The bubble cabin coming back from Vegas was immaculate and cleaner than the PE section on my flight to San Fran! The old PE seats are still fairly comfortable, but a bit narrower than the new seats. Coming back the IFE screens were a little battered and the controls tempremental. No probs on the newer refit.

It seems there is a little confusion at times as to what people really want out of their flights.

I have only flown economy on VS once, returning from St Lucia back in 2001, never again!!!!! Fortunately the bank manager allows me to stretch to PE so when I fly all I expect is a clean, non ripped seat, IFE that works (not fussed if it is vport or not) and food and drink to be of a decent standard and not scrimped on.

Cabin Crew at VS tend to be on the whole a good bunch so that never worries me.

I honestly feel that VS could have introduced the new seat without adding VPort but adding Empower instead at a fraction of the cost of a full on refurb, at least PE passengers could have the choice of bringing a laptop if they didnt want to use Nova/Odyssey.

Again though, why didnt they refurb the old UC seats restricting the recline and use them in PE??? Probably issues there though that i havent a clue about!

The old J2000 seats are wider and heavier than the PE seats so you would only get fewer in with the associated loss of revenue.

The problem with just adding Empower sockets is that the whole A/C electrical system also needs upgrading/updating as well.

I believe for each Empower socket there has to be a power pack installed (which I think sits under the cabin floor). This also adds a lot of weight to an A/C.

I also believe there is a limit to how many Empower sockets that can be installed due to power drains on the system if lots of people are using it at the same time.
