Wow really interesting! Check out the oil patches around the active A10s near the runway - you never notice spillages on black tarmac at airport normally.

There's one at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford that you can get fairly close to...

Thanks for the link. Interesting stuff.

We took a drive around part of the (massive) perimeter a couple of years ago but, regretably, didn't have time to take a tour as we were heading south to the Titan missile silo in Green Valley which is definitely worth a visit if you have 2 or 3 hours to spare in the Tucson area:

Ahhh yes the plane graveyards!

Anyone who has driven out of LAS will be fairly familiar with the sights of 744's parked up way out on the horizon.

Numerous examples of these airplane graveyards can be found on a.net (Goodyear, Tuscon etc etc).

And its not just old planes that get sent out there- a number of Zoom 767's have just been sent out to the desert as they await new owners and VS of course had a couple of 742's stored out there post 9/11 (High as a Kite et al IIRC).

Very happy memories [:D]

Mojave is a great experience, just a shame that you cant get out of the vehicle to get a closer look at some of the planes.

Thanks,
Sarah

In fact you can get right in under it & stand up in the wheel wells.

Same goes for the SR71 Blackbird [y]

Couldn't beleive I was kneeling under one of those & able to touch it [oo]

Be carful of what you wish for, the way the Russians feel at the moment they may just start to throw a few sticks around. Or even turn the gas off, then it would be really cold[:p]
