I know massive carry-ons are the pet hate of a number of V-Flyers, myself included.

It is interesting to see the money that US Airlines are now collecting for 'excess' baggage, for example Delta made $42,500,000 in Q2 2008! [:0]

I can't see it changing until the airlines enforce a 'does it fit' rule. Even if people weren't paying, there'd still be a substantial number using huge carry ons to avoid the baggage belt wait and potential for lost luggage.

One of the comments to the article that mentioned the TSA use to have a 'sizer' right on the screening belt. Surely bringing that back would make sense, rather than the scrum on the jet bridge, or in the aircraft when people are bringing in a couple of oversized rollers.

Add me to the list of people who dislike excessively sized carry-on bags.

I agree with Pete - put the bag sizer back on the X-ray machines. If the bag won't fit through the sizer, it cannot be X-rayed so it's not carry on baggage. Go back to check-in and pay for a checked bag.
