Upgrading using miles when booked through VH

Is it possible to upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy using miles when you book a holiday through Virgin Holidays? Me and the wife have over 30K miles each and fly to vegas in november so it may be nice to upgrade.

ISTBC, but I think the answer is no. That said, some of the upgrade prices can be reasonable.

Nope, its not possible. VH do not accept VS miles for upgrades, and they book into H class for PE, which isnt upgradeable with miles in the first instance. The only way to upgrade is to pay their supplements, which sometimes are a very good deal, and at other times far less so.

As with any other ticket type not strictly elligible for miles upgrades, you can always try your luck at the airport on the day.

Ummm. The H fare issue isn't a factor here Sarah. This is from Economy to PE, so *technically*, you could upgrade the economy ticket from the (likely very restricted) fare bucket that VH issue, with cash, to an L ticket and then use your miles.

But that would most likely have to be done at the airport. In which case, you may be better off asking about a cash upgrade on the day anyway.

Ah, I read it as upgrade from PE not to. Duly corrected, though the essence of what I was saying still stands with regards to upgrading VH tickets with miles.

You can get some good cash upgrade deals at the airport with a VH fare. I've done it a couple of times.

what sort of ball park figure are we talking to upgrade to PE at the airport? We will be doing the twilight check in the night before.

Came back from JFK->LHR on a VH ticket recently, upgraded on the way back from economy to PE at the airport for £252 each, which I thought was pretty reasonable.

For info, the 2008 VH upgrade PE supplement is £349 each way (it's that price for all US destinations all year round).

I dont know why VH have fixed this PE supplement price for 2008, as it used to vary by destination and month. Upper Class ones still do vary.
