I'm going to book a return flight LAX-LAS just after Christmas and was hoping for a recommendation of who's the best airline to book my flight with?

Considerations would be general reputation, not being bankrupt within the next few months, a decent luggage allowance, reliability, price and ease of check-in.

I have no experience whatsoever of taking internal US flights, apart from flying LAX-SFO with VX last year - as this isn't an option, who most fits the bill?

Don't want much do you? [;)]

Have a look at Southwest. A very quick looks indicates no Ryanair-like charges for breathing on board or wearing the carpet out.

It is a really quite short flight - would probably just fly the cheapest one with the schedule that suits you most.

If you are staying in the LA area for a while first (i.e. not just flying LHR-LAX-LAS), then it is worth looking at flying from one of the smaller LA area airports. We often stay with family in the Fullerton (near Anaheim) area and Santa Ana (SNA) is our prefered airport from domestic flights. SNA is much more convienent (for getting to, Hertz rental car return, getting around the airport etc) than LAX. There are other airports in the area too (Burbank, Ontario etc). Worth thinking about - if the circumstances fit.

Ive used Southwest four or five times on that route - no problems at all. The trick is to check in online the day before to make sure you get one of the group A boarding passes - theres no assigned seating with Southwest so they board the plane in groups & its best not to be in the last group if the flight is full!

Think it was US airways or united (Vegas muddles the brain..) we used in June for LAX-LAS - absolutely fine, very small plane 1+2, poor girl squeezing through trying to serve drinks to everyone before we landed and didn't manage it..!(why bother- It's such a short trip).
Its a shuttle and sub 40 mins, very cheap, so I'd just go with the best price..

Definately agree that you should go for price option. You will barely realise you are in the air before you get to Vegas!

You may want to look at airline points - American Airline gives you BA tier points and miles (dependant on fares of course but sometimes the cheap fares are not much difference to the TP earing ones)

Belated thanks for the replies - booked Southwest, very reasonable price, especially compared to UA/AA who were almost twice the price. Also booked a room at Signature MGM Grand on NYE - has anyone been at this hotel/in Vegas at this time of year? Want to make the most of the NYE atmosphere but want to stay safe also. Any tips gratefully received!
