Looking at the 14.40 BOS flight from LHR, BMI transfers down from LBA coming in very pricy. 172ea [:(!]

Investigating getting Thomas the Tank engine to Kings Cross.
What would you give for times to get across to LHR, poss make use of the LHR express (& our upgrade tickets) ??

Obviously need to leave enough time at LHR for chk-in etc etc

Is it not just easier to jump on the Piccadilly line which would take just under an hour.

Weekday or weekend? Check for engineering work.

We took the Piccadilly line last month from King's Cross to LHR and the journey time was about 45-50 mins (plus about 10 mins walking to T3 from the underground station). However, the train was very crowded in central London (Sat pm), and it was a struggle to get on with our suitcases. Although it thinned out later on, I still had to stand the entire way. Still, it was the cheapest way to get to LHR, and didn't involve changing trains again.

As for getting to Paddington for the Heathrow Express, the journey time is advertised as 10-12 min on the TFL website, but in my experience, Circle line and H'Smith & City line trains are less frequent than Piccadilly line ones (especially at w/e). As locutus says, it will depend on your day of travel.

BTW, the lift at King's Cross station is particularly useful as it allows you to get from street level down to the concourse level (and hence the escalator straight down to the platforms) without having to lift your suitcases down any stairs - something you might want to consider if you have a lot of luggage?

As it stands, just 2 of us, going on a wednesday am likely just the one case. So trying to way up the best (least hassle route). We'd be returning on a monday am, but with no time restrictions, so not as much an issue.

Totally agree: by the time you've messed about trying to get to Paddington, you'd nearly be at LHR on the Piccadilly.

Unless it's a really early flight, even I take the Piccadilly Line these days to Paddington rather than a car or limobike. Just refrain from paying the supposedly destitute beggars with the accordians and babies any money. I estimate that they make about £3 per stop, using the emergency inter-carriage doors to make it to their next prey. Very safe for the child I'm sure. I make that a rather healthy £72 for the 50 minute journey to KX. Nice work if you can get it.

I have not used the Tube for a good few years now - always take a car around Town and with my amount of luggage I need for my trips to LHR and beyond no other way (except a black cab) comes close to my comfort zone to warrant a second glance.

My preference would be a taxi from King's Cross to Paddington. It's only a couple of miles and shouldn't take more than about 20mins (on a good day it can take about 10), then the HEX. So 30 to 40 minutes, but costs a lot more (£25 ish each) than the Tube (£4 each), but I hate travelling on it with bags especially as people don't seem to understand the relatively simple concept of 'let the passengers off the train first'![V]. I'll go and sit in a dark room now and calm down....

HG, LOL! It's taken some time but I have been almost completely removed of my taxi habit. I even took the tube to Victoria for the Gatwick Express yesterday. I know all about the comfort zone: getting back onto the tube for me took some doing, what with the cold sweats and anxiety attacks it induces - and you think I'm joking.

The one-stop-shop of the Piccadily sounds enticing at present, given straight train to tube and off at LHR. We're fairly travel savvy & used to the tube, so can blankly stare at a black window and ignore everything/everyone like the best.

So should give about an hour, from KGX to LHR using Piccadily direct - rough cost?
To summarise:
Train: Leeds to LHR ust Under 4hrs..
Flying: LBA - LHR (all said & done: approx 2hrs airport+1.2hrs flight + upto an 1hr baggage & terminal trf)-Just over 4Hrs..

Interesting result..

£4 pp each way paying by cash - slightly cheaper if you have an Oyster card. In my opinion, it's easiest to bolt on the underground bit when you buy your train fare (Leeds - LHR rather than Leeds - King's Cross). Not only does this work out slightly cheaper (I think), but it saves you queuing and buying another ticket once in London

I may be happy to give the Tube another go, sometime, but been looking for a self help group to join first ! LOL. Seriously I sometimes think it is quicker, and certainly more pleasant, to walk in Town than catch that dreaded thing ....

Everytime I take the train to LHR via St Pancras I would use the tube. It is nice and simple especially when one is carrying large suitcases. Now I only wish HEX will move in to St Pancras like the Eurostar [}:)]
