Shady Lady

I was watching an old discovery science programme last night via the old sputnik about AFS at LGW around about 1996 I think. Anyway it featured a medivac from VS metal "Shady Lady". Not sure but i think she was a 742. I take it she has now left the fleet and is now sunning herself somewhere in the desert. Does anyone know where she is now or any other info on her.

I think you mean 'Scarlet Lady' which was G-VGIN. She left the fleet a couple of years back (2001 or 2002 I think) and went to Kabo Air in NIgeria as 5N-EEE. I don't know if she's still operational though.

Could have been but I'm I thought it was Shady lady. I remember Scarlet Lady so would have recognised the name. However, I was watching through the bottom of an empty bottle of red wine:D so autofocus was not the best;)I bow to better knowledge.

Shady Lady is/was G-VOYG.

She is a Boeing 747-200B built in 1971.

I can't find any detail of where she is, even having looked through the 'boneyard' databases, so I assume that she has been sold on or scrapped. She was involved in an air accident report at LGW in August 1996, but the damage appears to have been relatively minor.

Shady Lady is such a cool name - I think only Crazy Lady would have been better.

Do a/c have a perminent registration (like a vehicle VIN #)

The air accident report makes interesting reading and reveals she was 1971 vintage - so scrapped is pretty likely.

I bow to your (red wine induced) spotting abilities! I must admit 'Shady Lady' is not a name I knew [:I] but VOYG was scrapped at RAF Kemble a while back. Sorry I can't find a retirement date at the mo...we've got a new computer system for recording flight details and it doesen't go back that far! [:(]

I believe that some 2 or 3 were scrapped at Kemble, probably after the ex-NZ and CX RR-engined Classics arrived. I believe VMIA (a 747-100) was also done there. "Top Gear" used to be filmed at an Airfield in which a 747 was being s-l-o-w-l-y scrapped, each week there was a bit less! It may have been Kemble, or another field which was cutting up ex-BA 747s.

A search of Airliners.net gives a Kemble scrap date of Nov 1998.
