The UK's First 'Low Cost' Airline

...wasn't Ryanair or easyJet.

It was Britannia Airways.
I remember in the late eighties/early nineties, Britannia started a scheduled service between London Luton and Belfast International Airport. I think it was a spare plane that they needed to use. Fares were 29, 39, 49 and 59, and they were busy.

At the time, another regional airline, Capital Airlines, based at Leeds/Bradford Airport also operated a similar fares structure.

I felt the urge to post this.

Oh good topic, I think you will find that Laker beat Britannia though, in the mid to late 60's they were flying turbo props from the UK to Europe, heck even Skytrain started out with £59 pound fares.
