VS to codeshare with VX

Along with the announcement of the new services from SFO into John Wayne. VX have also confirmed that a VS/VX codeshare agreement will be in place by June. Click Here for Article

By the end of summer you should be able to earn VS miles on any Virgin branded airline, except Virgin Nigeria.

I should add that over on a.net this topic has caused a hissy fit from the legacy lovers/armchair CEO's. Cabotage/SRB should die/ VX will fail/ VX is a joke of a carrier/ Obama should close down this foreign owned airline etc etc. Am sure you all get the picture about the view of some on VX.

When is VAustralia and Velocity in all the other programs (codeshare and FFPs)? That would make Virgin a global airline; especially a RTW flight number (granted codeshared).

That is good news. I remember VX having major issues getting off the ground because the Yank airlines believed that VX was 'foreign'. Oh well.

Virgin Nigeria has ceased (or is due to cease) all long-distance services due to the kerfuffle at the new terminal at Lagos airport. Apparently VN was given permission to stay in the terminal that was to be used for international flights only, only to suddenly be told that they had to move to the domestic terminal. Lawsuits, lots of drama, and now the call that they're shutting up shop on long-distance. Let's just say that a large contingent of people in Nigeria are rejoicing.

Fantastic, great, superb etc. But utterly craptastic unless FF benefits are accrued ... don't forget that back in 2007 VX said it hoped to achieve this in that year ... but not yet.

Well, VX has a nice FFP too, you know... I'm sure that if and when VX and VS decide to allow each others FFP members to accrue points, they'll also allow the ability to shift points between those two FFPs...

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club (FC): In a nutshell gives you 1 Flying Club mile for 1 mile traveled. A traveler could have paid $0.055 or $0.17 in fare to be transported that 1 mile.

Virgin America Elevate (EL): Awards travelers' revenue by giving them 5 Elevate points per $1.00 in revenue. Everyone is awarded equally.

So how will Virgin Atlantic and America award their FFP scheme members equally when the schemes themselves have different basis for awarding 'loyalty'?

That is a very good question and not one that I have to answer, thank the Neil, I am sure it is something we will be either very happy with or annoyed with with in a few months, I can't see them switching to a mileage based system now.

I'm sure VX and VS will work out something that is reasonably acceptable to members of both programmes?

At a guess, I would think it would be along similar lines to the Flying Club/Velocity arrangements.

Surely the simple and fair solution would be if you take a VX flight and have both FC and EL membership, to choose which one you want the rewards applied to. If you put in your EL account then you get points based on what you paid, and if you put in your FC then you get however many miles the flight was.

Wish I'd heard this sooner tho - I just last week booked a trip with US Airways across to Vegas in April for work, solely for the miles and TP - I would MUCH rather have flown with VX. Grr.

It will not be in place by April, so US or CO is the way to go for now.

Well that would be nice but I doubt that would happen. VX would have to share the revenue with its partners to ensure credit to VS. This would be a WHOLE new way of doing a FFP.
