This trip was intended to use up some miles and whilst at it to use a couple of the Amex Y-PE upgrade vouchers that can be tricky to take advantage of. Wed snagged the relevant Ys and had managed to combine them with the PE upgrades that totalled just over 275 return each in PE for a long weekend in San Diego via LAX.

Arrived LHR at about 8am and were promptly checked in, although despite Y being sold out no sniff of an upgrade. Anyway, up to the CH in record time and settled in for Eggs Benedict, orange juice and champers; very nice.

Mrs. VizBiz had a collagen eye treatment booked for 08.45, so at the appointed time she headed on over for her pampering apparently 10 out of 10. All this time I was hopefully keeping an ear open for the would Mr. Vizbiz please come to the concierge desk announcement, but no luck, other than for 4 or 5 other pax who seemed to be luckier than us[:#]!

Made our way down to the gate and upon the boarding pass being put in the machine, that delightful bing sounded. Wed been upgraded to 11&12G RESULT[y][y][y]!

This was a real treat for Mrs. V, as shes only ever travelled in Y before, so it goes without saying that the entire flight was just one luxury for her. The cabin crew were attentive, although a couple of points of interest arose; even after only getting part-way through the drinks and nibbles round theyd run out of nuts[:?], and following that, on asking for a the prawn starter I was told there were none left[:?].

I didnt really mind, considering the tickets we were on (although Id have been mighty peeved if Id paid full or near full price for my UC ticket[?]), and my disappointments were suitably offset by the offer of a bottle of wine to take away with us[8D].

All in all of course a very enjoyable experience (given what wed paid!!!) and for my wife a first time UC experience that was a complete luxury[y].

For your info the crew are aware of who has been upgraded, so if we run out of a particular choice of food on the menu, the crew will ask any upgrade pax to choose another dish. Not ideal but the fairest way to do it!

Completely fair, and I didn't have a problem with it - just a little surprised when I asked about the nuts to be told that 'we only have one bag of nuts on board', again didn't have a problem with it as we were upgraded which was definitely worth more than a bag of nuts[:D]...

Nice result on the upgrade. [y]

Problem is, now your Wife has sampled UC, will she be happy in Y next time?

Regarding the nuts, I am sure there we some posts a while back saying that VS had stopped having nuts on board at all, after after some problems with passengers who got very, very ill if they were in close proximity to peanuts.

I am sure I had nuts on my trip to ORD last November plus if anyone is that allergic to nuts then they should have their epi-pen with them !

Why should us nut lovers have to do without?

Next it will be no champers because someone might be allergic to the bubbles and if that happens I'll be very very [V][V][V][V][V][V]

Dont worry there are nuts - well certainly on all my recent flights (and I have been on LOTS over the last six months) - I am allergic to some foods (not nuts) and I always carry an epi-pen just in case as I am sure those with a nut allergy will to. However if a pax does have a severe nut allergy, then the cabin crew MAY not serve nuts on that particular flight.

I always grin like a cheshire cat and have to stop myself shouting 'result' when I hear the magic 'bing' - not cool but who cares![^]

I love hearing positive reviews and great value too.[y]

Love the description of the 'Bing ... RESULT!' Stars must have been in alignment for you. Also very glad to hear that you and your wife enjoyed the trip. I was on VS007 not very long ago and alas, no nuts.
