Just booked an UC flight to Newark next month[^].
Can't decide where to sit (A340-600),does anyone know which door is used at EWR as I would like to get off quite quickly as I'm driving down to Philly the same evening.
Also does anyone have any experience of immigration at EWR especially wait times?
I'm on the VS001 which arrives at 8.15pm.

Thanks

We usually sit in 9, 10 or 11 A as they are not too far and not too close to the bar and you're not overlooked by the middle row as they look the other way. Finally when you get to EWR you are usually in the first half dozen off the plane so you don't have to stand in the immigration queue too long.

We have selected these for our flight out on the VS17 on Friday.

Door = L2 so the closer to the bar the better on a 346.

815 pm can be variable, I'd plan for 45 mins queuing and hope for less depending on how fast you run and whether another plane got in before ...

Have you thought about the train to Philadelphia?

Thanks for that, Expertflyer is showing the flight as quite empty so hopefully it will stay that way.

Did have a look at Amtrak times but they don't really fit in with my arrival.

Yeah, there are a couple of planes I think that tend to get in around that time, so processing times can vary. I normally get in on the 11pm flight, VS17, which always seems to be the last one into that terminal of the evening. It looks like they wake the immigration guys up just for us. They sort of amble slowly towards their desks, have a cup of coffee, set up their pens and staplers, yell at you for standing in the line before they'd turned their light on, (even though you had been directed to stand there by the woman whose job it is to point you to which line to stand in) and then welcome you wholeheartedly to the US.

However, even the best laid plans of getting off the plane quickly, running (but not too obviously) to immigration and then getting in the seemingly shortest line, can all come apart at the seams when it comes to waiting for your bags. I flew back over here after Christmas, was in the first 20 people through immigration, and then got to bag claim. And waited. And waited. In a cruel twist of fate, the moron baggage handlers (I would use a stronger word, but not wishing to offend, moron will suffice (I've had things stolen from my bags at EWR, and a friend had a PS3 stolen from his bag at EWR)) decided to throw all the bags with upper class tags out last. Like, completely last. The plane had been full too.

Anyway, I live just outside of Philly, if you need directions or anything, let me know. Oh, and don't forget cash for the turnpike and bridge.

Just thought I'd correct everyone and let people know that at EWR the very front left hand door (L1 to those in the know) is used for all Airbus flights. This is due to the jetbridges at EWR not being able to reach L2.

So if you really wanted to be first off - seat 1D is the way to go.

Thanks for that, I was in 17A, luckily there's plenty of availability so I'll move to the front[y]
