Oh yeah, thats right, they test it by making monkeys stay within 10ft. of a smoking machine for 24 hours a day, nice comparison
[:D] I assume you're taking the mick...

Or have you never heard of the word 'epidemiology'?

There are clear dose-dependent associations, between passive smoking and mortality from lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, stroke, and ischaemic heart disease, established by prospective epidemiological studies.

So, nothing to do with monkeys then.......

Congratulations EGG, how is the sense of smell coping? Can you now smell smoke on others when they walk past. That was the thing that shocked me the most when I quit, that I was never aware of the smell of smoke I carried around with me.

Was taking a wee jog down memory lane, and bumped into this thread...

Eight months down the line, has anyone's opinion changed? FWIW, I'm now 10 weeks down the line as an ex-smoker (sixth time lucky, always works [;)]) using Champix tablets as against patches, which makes me nicotine free as well. Bloody marvelous!

Being a long term ex smoker, who occasionally falls from grace and endulges for a month or so (currently 18 months fag free give or take the odd cigar), I have no particular axe to grind.
BUT I will say I find it unpleasant to go into smokey bars/restaurants overseas these days. I'm currently stinking of smoke having been out with 8 smoking friends in China last night.
So smoke free pubs are one aspect of life back in the UK I am looking forward to.
