Just watched the latest Shuttle return to earth on NasaTV. I can watch those endlessly, and it never ceases to amase me some of the speeds and altitudes they quote.
I started watching about 20minutes out from landing, somewhere over Nebraska at 13000mph and 210,000ft, and within minutes they have scrubbed 4000mph and tens of thousands of feet and are somewhere over Missori.
If only air travel could be so quick!
Much like Concorde it will be a very sad day, and a great step backwards when the shuttle's are retired without any revolutionary replacements.
