The Space Shuttle

Just watched the latest Shuttle return to earth on NasaTV. I can watch those endlessly, and it never ceases to amase me some of the speeds and altitudes they quote.
I started watching about 20minutes out from landing, somewhere over Nebraska at 13000mph and 210,000ft, and within minutes they have scrubbed 4000mph and tens of thousands of feet and are somewhere over Missori.

If only air travel could be so quick!

Much like Concorde it will be a very sad day, and a great step backwards when the shuttle's are retired without any revolutionary replacements.

I have always wanted to see a launch. Booked tickets one year and flew out to MCO but the launch was delayed. I ended up trying to stay in Orlando for as long as i could so i would see it but I had to go back to work in the end. I'll be gutted if i never get to see one.

I've watched the last few landings on NASA TV, they always fascinate me.

Not quite the same thing, but I used to see rockets from Vandenburgh AFB going thru the sky when I lived in LA. Fascinating, especially the glowing contrails...cool!

We get to see them here as well. With Area 51 being so close (or not) the tourists and newbies here go nuts

Yeah but I was only just born when the Apollo was ending, there really is no excuse for me not to have seen a shuttle launch.

Slightly OT - but I was watching the episode of Top Gear on BBC America the other night where they launch a Reliant Robin in the style of the Space Shuttle. Hilarious.

I have been lucky enough to see about 8 launches- two of those close up- and it still never ceases to amaze me. It is truly fantastic. I do have some pics on my Facebook page for those of you that are my buddies!

We stood watching when NASA had two shuttles ready to go (The first time this had happened) I was taking pic's and asked my son to use the video (Bad move, Dad!) we now have 20 seconds of the shuttle on the launch pad and everyone screaming, clapping and shouting and then a voice say's 'wrong shuttle son'!!! Then we see the right shuttle.

We have seen three launches and the noise and heat you feel several minutes after the lift off is something else? It never ceases to amaze me.

It really is highly recommended to go and see a launch, good luck.

OH MAN!!!! Just found out there is a shuttle launch scheduled for the 6th December!! I am in Orlando 3rd-12th!!! YES!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be good weather so they launch!! WHORAR!!
