Eurovision Hopefuls

Well, I ask you, who puts together the short list for this every year? The French?!?

Looks like we're heading for nul points again. At a push, Michelle Gayle. Or 'The Revelations', who look like a bunch of vacuous bimbos, but have a relatively catchy song.

but if UK win, that would spoil the whole thing. No fun being a winner.

We'll never win again - Eastern Europe vote for each other, so we'll never get a look in. The only reason we automatically qualify for the finals is 'cos we pay for it.

The only Eurovision I've enjoyed in recent years is the spoof Eurobeat show at the Edinburgh Festival last year.

Well of course we can't win. Where would the fun be in that? But it would be fun to be in the top 10 for a change.

Granted, the East Europeans have taken 'reciprocal voting' to new heights, but they do come up with some cracking entries. Remember the cross dressing air crew?

Eurovison rules. Yes it rubbish, but it is brilliant rubbish. I have not missed a Euorovison since I was 9 and I ensure nothing gets in the way of my watching it. The Eastern European block voting has become stupid but to be fair some good songs have won (apart from last years winner which was rubbish). Us Brits can't moan because we have sent some cr@p entries (although I love Scooch and Daz![:I]), and I imagine this year will be exactly the same.

In my expert opinion we can't send a ballad this year as one won last year but we don't have anything original by the look of it so I imagine it will be another year of lowly scores.

I could take about Eurovision all night long, but will save that for when LRoM comes to Hull for my Eurovison party[}:)] (unless anyone wants to chat about it that is......no?........anyone?......... ok then[:#][B)]

Neil - be ashamed of your city by all means. Be ashamed of your spurious attempts to be remotely proficient at my lyrics quiz if you must. But never be ashamed about your love of Eurovision. We will, for the 8th consecutive year, be hosting a Eurovish Party chez mdvipond on the 24th May, and we're all looking forward to it massively, thanks very much.

Mind you, I have to take you to task over your taste in UK entrants. Scooch? Daz? Possibly two of the worse offerings to the contest that this country has ever made! Love City Groove - now there was an entrant that should have done better...

I'm not ashamed - I LOVE EUROVISION as does Luke (he really had no choice in the matter!), it is my favourite night of the year, bar NONE.

I disagree Mark. LCG was too ahead of its time, we almost won with Sonia in ' 93and then 2 years later we change to that? Europe (even the UK) wasn't ready for the 'novolty act' Bad move (Sam Fox should have been the UK entrant that year, I have that song on CD!). However...

Daz and Scooch were good entires, over the past 5/6 years 'different' act have won the contest more often then not, Lordi, Ruslana, Sertab Erener so the UK sending an act that was different could, and should have worked, but stupid voting failed us. Rubbish like Jemini and Javine were middle of the road terrible choices. I have a fear this year we will go for the builder from Joseph with his ballad song (one won last year and we almost picked Cindi) when in fact I can see a Virka style song winning in Belgrade.

I am uber excited about Sat night to see who we pick and even more so for the 24th May[^]
