Will be sold in 70 countries- WOW!

8GB at $199 not bad at all. So pretty much a 100 squid for us. I like. Still expensive by UK standards though.

$299 for 16 GB and in White also![:D][y]

And another month to wait. July 11th launch date in 22 countries, guessing UK included.

This is very interesting:

- complete support for Office documents
- iPhone 2.0 software from July
- all the new games, eBay, etc.
- support for enterprises to control and distribute software to their business users' iPhones
- Outlook support WOW!
- 3G
- still only 16GB @ $399

So a major push for corporate users with MS support which is great ... but no 32GB or higher version!

And that was that!

Well now on countdown to July 11th I feel.

Nice to see Apple have realised the price needed to be lowered.

Echo slinky's thoughts and all for $299.

Top price worldwide $299 / £150? Yeah right!

So nothing else to talk about?

No mention of upgrade path for existing users, and kind of disappointing they didn't push the memory to 32GB like the iPod Touch.

I suspect the drop in price requires a contract, which makes upgrading not-so-straightforward.

Steve said so, so must be true [;)] I believe that it will also require a two year contract.

So nothing else to talk about?

Ap store launching later this week.
.Mac renamed to moblieme and offering better service with Iphone.

Apple store is now updated with Iphone 3G section, no price though.

Not that there are many of the v1 devices kicking around in Redmond already (given that US staff have to supply their own handset), I can imagine that number will be even greater with that new version!

See, the sick side of me says...

Given they can't actually LAUNCH the damn thing until July 11th...
Plus, given that everyone's getting used to Apple's product launches being the biggest kept secret since the Great Fire of London...
If I were Jobs, I'd have not mentioned it AT ALL.

a) That'll shut the rumor-geeks up for once.
b) Everyone keeps guessing a little longer, and stops 'assuming' product launches.
c) They can announce it when it's actually AVAILABLE, you know, to actually BUY. [V]

Just a thought. [:w]

Well it looks like I'll 'have' to get an iPhone 2 to keep my iPhone 1 company. I'm in the GPS industry so it's research and a justifiable expense :)

But then, when v1 was annouced that was done what, 6 months before it was actually available to purchase? Just over a month isn't too bad as it is a good amount of hype time for the new device. You could easily do a sustain campaign over that period. 6 months was an initial huge wave, quieten down and then another spike around launch. As for point a) and b) - I thought that was all part of the Apple 'culture' and 'ecosystem' [:w]

Interesting piece from AT&T about rev-share and subsidy cost given new price point.

http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone

So the big 'offer' for UK customers is that you can buy the iPhone at exactly the same price as new customers, but you won't have to wait until the end of your current 18-month contract to take out a new 18-month contract with them.

So much for loyalty...
