I remember when the boarding video was showing clips on VS's destinations and SRB doing VS Publicty Stunts, now thats been replaced by a boring old blob moving around.[n]

Why, the other one was tons better.

Last week, there was clips for Online check-in, bits about VS destinations, information about duty free and what's on the IFE during the boarding music, rather than the "lava lamp" effect...

Maybe you got one of the old boarding music tapes?

(In case you didn't know, the "lava", or the other stuff, and the boarding music play off the same videotape.)

Cheers,
Mike

I never remember that being a boarding video, but when I have gone to Heathrow, on some of the their television screens, they have the movie showing SRB doing publicity things.

I remember the blob during boarding and disembarkation and the promo video being played once seat belts sign was on prior to landing.

I have the red blobby thing on DVD :)
I miss it on board... dont like the "promotional" videos they show now... feels too much like I'm having a TV commercial rammed down my throat. Same goes for the introductory video they show after take-off with the annoying faceless nurse pointing at me. Same goes for the news, although I think there might be a contractual obligation with Sky News there...
Red blobby thing on the other hand, felt kinda funky... goes well with the design of the new bar on UCS a/c, the red leather, etc etc.
(In case you're interested, it's called "Funky Oil", and is a limited edition "art" dvd. Don't remember where I got it from now but I'm sure Google will tell you where you can buy it - if it's still available)

Exactly... I found a description of it online, which said:

"Like a painting or a still image Funky Oil does not demand constant attention. We are free to watch or not watch..."

include me on this list!

Sky news should be an AVOD option on V:Port planes at the minimum.

Haven't seen the "advert" intro yet, but flying out Wednesday - and by the sounds of things the ambient lava lamp thing will be missed!!

Do they play audio with these commercials as well? If they do I'll be unhappy, as the boarding music played I have often then bought on CD, as it reminds me of the VS/holiday experience - without it what am I to do?

The blobs better not be gone, I love the blobs, I keep trying to find a screensaver that mimics the blobs. Seriously though, I really did like them, I hope removing them was an error and that they will be replaced soon! And like you Richard, the boarding music they play reminds me of VS everytime I hear it. The news they show is a waste, I never watch it, and if they insist on having news in the beginning, at least put on BBC News like BA does.

The red blobs have gone. We now have a Video showing differant things about the flight. IFE,Retail,Destination pics etc.

As for the News we used to use BBC however we dropped them because they could never get the tape to LHR in time for the VS45 departure. I also guess SKY gave us a nuch better deal. After all the News that one station shows is only the same news as the other station shows.

We did think about loosing the news all together at one point but during reserch it became known that it is a basic passenger expetation just like a face towel is too. So we decided to keep it.

Couldnt thay let people choose between the map and the news. I like the map. Except when it says 'time to destination 9.45'

Thanks for the reply, I'm really annoyed that the blobs are gone, as far back as I can remember flying VS they've been there. It's one of those things that evokes VS memories.

Yes, I also liked the blobs - they promoted a kind of calm, retro, classy feeling in the cabin!:D

I like Sky News, I would rather have Fox news, but we cannot have everything.
I would like, when V-Port comes to LGW to have an electronic version of the Daily Mail on the system. :D

Now, whilst that is said to wind some of you up (you know who you are! [}:)]) actually, it would be a good thing to have.
You could have a set of newspapers on the system, saving on weight, and environmentally better than carrying loads of paper around, even though its partly recycled paper.
Takew it another way also. You could have the UC menus on the system and also the economy servings, again, a saving of printing costs and weight. You could even have pictures, even making the B&M look eadible!
(If any staff want to put it forward, please do, i won't want any of the money [:o)][:o)])

Daily mail and fox news, with both of those on board I would never, EVER want to fly on that airline. :D[n]

Ah ha, I know, have the newspaper written on the toilet paper! It's ingenious.

I flew on VS 901 yesterday, and there was no Sky news, compulsory or otherwise! Very soon after takeoff, the screens came on straight into Vport. Is the much loathed Sky News no more? :)

It was the same for me on the VS020 on 14th Oct. No Sky News, just straight into V:Port.

I also don't recall seeing the news on our outbound flight (VS001)on 29th Sept either!

Looks like after all the recent cutbacks, downgrades in service standards etc, at last we have an improvement! More power to the beancounters! :D

Lucky you, I flew VS23 yesterday and the Sky news was there in force (so I had iPod and book at that time). Although the rest of the IFE system was pretty poor too with every channel suffering tape damage (or more likely equipment wearing).

Simple answer, not for quite a while. They've just updated Nova to "Super Nova".

If you use the search function of the site, you'll find many, many topics regarding the LGW entertainment systems.

Ok site admin, its time you gave us the blobs so we can download them
or put them on the site so we can all remember our VA youth;)

I liked the blobs ( exept when they were playing on a dodgy 747/200 from Man )

Well to show how long it is since I flew on VS (back in 1996 - being a student/new graduate kind of removed all hopes of long haul travel for almost a decade!), the PTVs were showing a kind of computer generated video that changed from vegetation to underwater to random shapes and animals and plants and stuff (at least that's how I remember it) and the boarding music was Bjork!!! Seems like I may have missed the era of the blobs completely...that said, I can live without Sky News onboard next month!

Buy it here http://www.buyindies.com/listings/1/0/1 ... 83937.html

I think you may be able to buy it used from amazon.co.uk.
