I am planning a trip to Bangalore, and in order to retain Gold this year I am considering connecting with Jet Airways at Mumbai. The cost is the same as a direct BA flight, so the bean counters will not get upset.

Three questions :

1) Does the Jet Airways flight earn TPs? I know it earns miles.
2) Does my Gold FC card give any Lounge access when waiting for the connecting flight ?
3) Which is the better hub for connections ? Mumbai or Dehli ?

Think I found the TP answer here. http://www.virginatlantic.com/en/gb/fre ... rtnertiers

Anyone know if Mumbai to Bangalore is over 2,000 miles ? I would suspect not.

Mark, I have done this route a few times - using BOM.

Jet Airways will give you TP's, but I think it will only be if you are flying business with them - for an internal flight it isn't too much more I believe.

I managed to get 12 TP's on the last journey - 10 with VS and 2 with Jet Airways.

Re the lounges - to be honest it is no great shakes. There are 2, one pre security at the domestic terminal and one after. Neither of which are anything to write home about. So, not sure whether the Gold will get you access, but you won't be missing anything.

Best hub? Not done Delhi, but BOM is an experience. The trf from international to domestic terminals is by some rickety old bus. My colleague's face was a picture the first time we did it. You also go round the perimiter of the airport and the shanty town comes right up to the retaining wall. It certainly opens your eyes.

Also, be careful that you don't miss the signs for the trf - we did and ended out on the street looking at what appeared to be 100,000 faces staring at us. We then had to talk to the soldier with the machine gun to let us back in as we had taken the wrong turning.

I have done the transfer at BOM on to a Jet Domestic flight and I booked an UC Limo, whilst only a short journey it was a little better than the bus. VS use Avis for the Limo service in BOM. I have also done the same arriving on a domestic into DEL and transfered to the VS flight by limo.

I got 1TP for each domestic leg in Jet Business (BOM-HYD & HYD-DEL)

This has firmed up and been booked. Although in order to get it on one ticket, our Mumbai to Bangalore flight has been pushed back, so we have 4 hours to kill at Mumbai.

Has anyone used the Jet Air Lounge, on an Economy ticket by gaining access with their Gold status ?

As VS are not codeshring on the LHR- BOM route, does anyone know if I can access the clubhouse with my FC Gold card when travelling with Jet in Y.
I have been told 'yes' by the gold FC line and 'no' by customer services via email.
Who is right?

See this post - VS are now codesharing.

When flying Jet, they use the AA Flagship lounge on the floor below the clubhouse for business and first passengers. In the past VS Aus in Y could not use this, but now the codeshare is in operation it would make sense to be able to use the clubhouse if you are Gold? I'd ring the premier team again and ask them to email you confirmation, then show it to the door folk at the clubhouse?

Well, it seems that even though the LHR- BOM flight is now operated as a Virgin codeshare on Jet airways. VS Golds are not permittd to use the Clubhouse when travelling on this service

The reply I received from customer services today:

Having checked with our procedures department, it has been confirmed that currently there is no agreement in place for Flying Club Gold members to access our Clubhouse when travelling on Jet Airways codeshare services.

This means I now have 4 replies to this query from Virgin. Two replies from the premier team telling me we ARE allowed to use the CH when travelling on the Jet BOM service and two by email from customer services sayiong we are not

Anybody got any ideas????

Get premier to email you something as Slinky pointed out above.

I was told by premier rep that she could not email a response but would get the relevant department to. Nothing received as yet.

couldnt you print off the response that allows you access and trot upstairs with the proof held in hand, i would have thought they would wave you in? I could be horribly wrong tho, just wondering?

cheers

Both positive replies I have had have been by phone, and both negative replies have been by email. It is quite maddening when you get contradictory information from people who work for the same company.

Just to update. Was denied access, as a Gold to the clubhouse travelling on the Jet Airways service to BOM. Now operating with a VS flight number since Virgin pulled out of Bombay.

But presumably your ticket/boarding pass was not a VS codeshare ticket?
