Hotels in Boston

Hi, planning a few nights in Boston for my birthday in December. Any recommendations on hotels?

In Boston, I stayed in a lovely area called Beacon Hill, and there was a lovely hotel called the Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro. I didn't stay there, we did self catering in a little house in this street:

The house looked fine, but it was a bit like the house that jack built - creaky stairs and spotted an ant or two, but as you can see it was perfectly acceptable. Especially for USD 150 a night, through these people: http://www.boston-bnbagency.com/



Beacon Hill is close to Boston Common which is a lovely park with boating pond, and the Cheers bar too...

Another good choice in terms of reputation is Jurys Boston, which is in a converted police station near the city centre. Last time I checked Virgin Holidays did decent prices there...

I loved Boston - it's just such a nice city. Not sure if you've been there before, but you've gotta love a city with signs like this:

Le Merdian Cambridge is excellent.

Onyx Hotel is great. It is part of the Kimpton Group, so all the ethics and human rights as in check (not that there is anything wrong with Jury's). Onyx is very upscale, has a great steak house plus a good bar next door. And a park across the street.

Haven't been before but have been wanting to for a while. Will have a look into suggestions and the dog sign is indeed pure class! Thanks for the info.

We stayed at Jury's Hotel Boston. It was a very nice, modern/trendy hotel, and very well located.

Both HL and I gave a brief, but very positive review in the hotel review section here and it still gets very good reviews on TR.

The new MO in Boston, is now taking bookings.

If you do a forum search, there are quite a few threads about hotels in Boston, though none for a while.

Another thing to be aware of is the price fluctuation. All cities have periods where the hotels are more expensive than others, but this seems to affect Boston more than most, with almost Vegas like price spikes. You should be okay in December, but if the city centre hotels are silly money, there are alternatives.

Went to the Omni Parker for my honeymoon and it was very nice old hotel.

It did help that when we arrived, someone was still in our allocated room. After an hour of waiting in the bar, the check-in desk upgraded us to a mini suite for the inconvience.[:D]

Tell me about it,for next week the Hilton at Logan want over $800 a night.[:0]I needed a bit of spend to keep the Diamond card but not that much.

As for BOS hotels my favorite is the Lenox the location can't be beat the new MO is right next to it.

I am off to Boston in Nov and am staying at the Hyatt. I have not stayed there before so have no idea how good it is or whether to recommend it, but it is a central hotel near Boston Common and a T station, earns FC miles, and was a very good deal ($160/night)!

I got the hyatt on priceline.com in Nov last year for $89 a night plus tax, the location is amazing and is connected to Macys perfect for shopping[}:)]

I am going to try the Hilton in the finacial district early November, it ain't cheap but looks very nicely fitted out,plus it is within walking distance of the TD Banknorth Garden, the reason for our trip.

The Omni Parker is nice. I have got it on priceline.com for about $70-90 a night day of arrival.

Sorry, could not disagree more. The floors in my room here were so filthy -- in this ghastly, unrenovated, faded empress of a hotel -- I had to wear my socks the entire time. Grease stains on the tattered arms of the easy chairs, chips from the tub and toilet porcelain.

Gross.

The best hotel is The Liberty Hotel. I also enjoyed staying at XV Beacon.

Well it is a nice older hotel.

The Liberty Hotel looks cool from the outside. crap view of the MGH T station from the lobby and some rooms.

I have decided to try the Jurys so will let you know what I think!

Any recent updates here then? Seen a great rate for the Renaissance Boston, but not sure it's in the right area for a tourist. Maybe I should try Priceline.

I stayed at the Renaissance a few weeks back. Its location isn't ideal for a tourist, but it is a nice hotel, with great staff and a really good concierge lounge.

There are a few bits close by - a Morton's steakhouse and some othet restaurants. The World Trade Centre silver line T station is only about 100 yards away.

The main purpose for it being built there is the new huge Convention Centre nearby.

If you can get a good rate there, I wouldn't have a problem recommending it, but if want Marriott and you can get a decent rate at Long Wharf or Copley Square - then their location is much better.

Thanks Nick. I managed to get Gold status with Marriott from BA so I do tend to head their way if possible, and a rate of 375 for 3 days is a lot less than their own web site (and you still get the upgrades and benefits but no stay credit if you book elsewhere).

Have you tried the M11 code on the Marriott website? We paid quite a lot less than that for three nights.

The downside to the Renn compared to Long Wharf if you are staying for a weekend, is that the lounge closes Friday night and doesn't open until Sunday evening at the Renn. [n]

Ah - midweek not so easy.
You can try the AAA rate if you are in the AA or try S4B (stay for breakfast) - the M11 rate occasionally works midweek but not very often.

I didn't know the AAA rate applies to UK AA members. Though I get free RAC cover with my bike at the moment, I do use AA every other year. Thanks for that!
