Anyone recognise the signs of this terrible addiction in their friends, their loved ones or - god forbid - themselves? And is there a danger of anyone on here falling victim to a V-Flyer variant of this 'disease'?

Addicted is a strong word, but I am starting to like Facebook, not as much as some but it is a handy way of keeping in touch with friends who are no longer living locally etc.

As for a similar thing happening with V-Flyer. Luke told me I was obsessed with it a long time ago and although I tried to deny it, it's true, this site is far too addictive, but in a good way!

I wasnt ever a fan of MySpace and havent joined any other social networking sites, but i do like Facebook. I joined to stay in touch with old colleagues when i switched companies last year and ended up finding lots of old school friends. Now my parents are on Facebook (Lord, help them) so I can keep in contact with them as we live in different countries. I dont care for most of the applications and i'm certainly not addicted but I do find myself checking it each day .... [:o]

Thanks,
Sarah

I think V-Flyer's a much healthier addiction than Facebook. I have to admit to not quite getting the latter.

A handful of my drinking chums are heavily into it, and it never fails to amuse and bemuse me when they start banging on about how many hundreds of 'friends' they've got on Facebook and how they threw sheep poo at each other last week. It all seems rather odd to me.

Like Sarah, I also have no interest in the applications at all, giving virtual birthday gifts and virtual pints, come on, what weirdo does a thing like that[:w][:D].

It is good to look a photos though, I very much enjoyed the adventures of the Bitches in MCO and Vegascrazy's Rhodes pics, something I wouldn't have seen if it were not thanks to Facebook.

One has to echo HL's displeasure. What the hell were they thinking?!

As for virtual pints (and the soon to be launched virtual carvery) Facebook would never be clever enough come up with a concept so subtle and quirky...

Is your household like ours? Both of you sitting on the sofa using your laptops? [:I]

I like facebook quite a lot: I am not competitive about how many friens I have, but it is really nice to catch-up with people thta you haven't seen in ages or don't see too often... I also haven't liked any other social networking sites before (liek Myspace).

Personally I find things like this - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7676285.stm -- MUCH more disturbing than general facebook addiction... and he only got 14 years - what is that about...???
