Imagine the picture.

Saturday afternoon 4.45pm.

After watching Jeff and pals for the last 85 mins on Soccer Saturday I am beginning to believe that the results might just go our way. Bolton 0-0 Man Utd, Sunderland 1-1 Villa, Chelsea 0-1 Stoke.

If only football lasted 85 minutes! I feel the phrase 1-0 to the Arsenal needs to be replaced with 1-0 to United.

My sister-in-law is a big Liverpool fan and she just couldn't believe Saturday! Had to explain to her that it's just typical of Man U of scoring a very late goal and she should expect it. Here's some of the evidence, m'lud!

Champions League Final 1999, 2 goals in the final 2 minutes of the game.

Schmichel scoring in the last minute in a Champions League game to equalise.

Tevez to equalise against Spurs in the last minute last year.

And god knows how many more.

However being devil's advocate, Liverpool this year have been in the same situation where if most of their games this season finished on 80 minutes, they would not have got nearly as many as points then they actually have.

Wonder if they've got a stopwatch that Fergie uses to get the extra time?[;)]

I know, so I cant really complain can I? Although all of our come back games we have been two or three down. That shows more class (haha). Where as Utd just seem to toe poke the ball across the line! [:w]

Good to see Jermaine score at the weekend, it is so tight down the bottom end of the league.

Tell me about it!

Anyone from 7th Down (Wigan 31pts) should be worried, very worried. I think it's going to be a case of which team can bring in faces who are going to make a difference.

I see Helen of Troy on attacking right mid...

It's difficult to resist willd's 'toe poke' comment, so let me say that any 11-man side is capable of producing more entertaining football -- my own Sunday league team, for example, which play makes the opening credits of Benny Hill look like a Johan Cruijff fugue state. All well and good.

But it's putting the goal in the net that wins the day, and I'll take toe poke over near-miss-over-the-bar-from-a-bicycle-kick any time.

Good on ye for having a competitive season, though. There's a special thing in the air (burning tires? uncollected rubbish? the fragrant blankets of those sleeping rough?) that one encounters when Liverpool figure in the table.

See you in May, old sport.

Not a very nice way to describe your sister-in-law, maybe it is just water retention.

Not a fan of Joey Barton, but he was correct to have a go at his team mate (left back) which resulted in a booking for JB. The Newcastle left back was skinned and proceeded to just trot back into position where some several seconds earlier, Jason Roberts had just slammed in a third.
Maybe a bit more passion from the Magpies is required (players not fans).
I do think they should outlaw the removal of tops unless you have a body of a Greek god as there was some very unsightly, lard coloured physiques on show at the weekend. Almost enough to put me off my after match pint.

GJ even Shearer on MOTD passed comment on the new 1-0 to United! Having said that, it serves me right for allowing a hint of excitement to get in my voice at 4.45pm instead of 4.55 when all results were in!

Paul, as for Joey Barton, please do not even get me started on that man.

As Mike says the league is looking great this year. The top of the league is tight, and the bottom is great. Who said ever said the only good football was played in the Championship?

Interesting topic in the times today stating that football is so well supported/watched due to the fact that it is one of the few sports where a result can literally turn in seconds, usually at the very end. The article was aimed at the Chelsea fans who went early at 1-0.

Well 31 minutes in and Spurs are up 1-0, remembering the debacle that happened in 2001, I am not going to start jumping up and down yet.

Having just watched 60 minutes of the 1986 FA cup final, there are some well known TV pundits that, on a weekly basis, pick holes in the defensive skills of todays players. Having watched this particular game, had the pass back rule not been in place, they were at best, average. With the no pass back rule in place today, on this performance,I doubt they would be capable of holding a defensive postion in any current Premiership team.

Oh my goodness...it appears that Liverpoo are cemented as #2 (which is appropriate). Poor old Liverpoo. Poor, poor old Liverpoo.

Watch out for Villa from your lofty position. They could quietly knock the Mancs off top and you wouldn't realise it until it's too late.

Good win for 'Arry and the boys last night.[y]

Good win indeed for Spurs last night. As we have said before, the bottom is so tight at the moment, that a string of 3-4 wins will pull you clear.

Villa are being very sneaky. Notice how O'Neil has been resting the spin of his first team for the UEFA Cup. Maybe this policy will pay off if they qualify for the CL. He is also making some good buys, rumors say Owen is off there as well, a great freebie if he stays fit. Of course O'Neil is lucky that Barry stayed but on the whole they are playing are very clever game.

And now for a song...

Who's at the top of the table?
Who's at the top of the table?
Who's at the top of the taaaaa-ble?
It isn't Liverpool!!!

Well what an interesting game it was yesterday. Sadly the day was overshadowed by the Ref. Lampard shouldn't have gone (but makes up for the penalty that wasnt they got last season at our place). THe attack on Yossi was pretty horrific. Overall a good result, sure we left it to the last minute but I never thought Chelsea would take the 3 points. Did Renia ever make a save?

So 2 points in it, MUFC with a game in hand, but a tricky tie next weekend at the Hammers, who the 2nd best team in the league over the last 5 games.

Game of the weekend must have been Bolton-Spurs, what gripping stuff that was.

As for the transfer window. Well looks like Arshaven isnt coming to Arsenal (sensible, no doubt Zenit wanted masses for a player who isnt match fit at the moment) and Keane back to Spurs (what a joke Rick Parry is).

'Twas a fun game to watch. I'd be tempted to say we're playing for seconds at this point, though last year MU made it interesting at the end. We've just not looked quite good enough to win it so far, too many silly draws. I'm sorry we spent for Keane and not Barry, that's for sure.

As usual, Spurs clinch defeat from the jaws of a good result. Will, you say that Rick Parry is a joke, what about Levy and the now-gone Comelli?[:?]

Well did you see Comelli's interview on SSN? He has of course now going back to his old stomping ground in France.

I must admit Levy cannot have been very good at getting Keane to stay in the first place. Although to be fair, Ramos may have been the problem for a lot of the now returned Spurs players.

I think you're right about Ramos, there was player I was very sad to see go and that was Malbranque. He was mr consistant and nearly every game last season and he was just allow to go to Sunderland.

Did everyone else in the UK have the technical hitch where ITV went to adverts in the last 2 mins of extra time and meant that some people, including me, to miss the goal? [V][V]

Tottenham can't score against a 10-man Arsene-ill team...pathetic. And how about that sizzling score line? Glad my pub league game is later today so I can see some actual footy today.

Oh...wait! There is actual footy today: the solid and respectable West Ham vs the greatest team in the world.
