Even though my home town of Wigan is on there (despite the fact that it is NOT a city) and nowadays I spend most of my time in Lancaster, to make things a little better for 99.99% of V-Flyers on here does it come as much surprise that Hull is on the list? [:p]

I wish the people who do these stupid reports would fully explain how they come to their conclusions. One of the numpties who was part of this one was on the local news the other day, and after much questioning, quite rightly confirmed, that if they had included the many small villages around Hull where a very large % of the people who work in Hull live, Hull wouldn't even be in the top 20 cities, let alone the worst.

It is so easy to make something detrimental out of nothing, and then for inept, anything for a quick story journalists to make something more out of it, which only then causes people who are unemployed due to the economic climate to have even less hope of finding jobs.

Look on the bright side Neil:

I know this bash Hull thing has got this tongue in cheek thing going on V-flyer rather like GJs
amenity kit fetish or my Gucci unfragranced people etc all in good taste and all that.

But

This report is just a typical example of how we in this country just relish being able to spread doom and gloom or put people and places down.

The who can be first to say we are screwed mentality is why we probably will be when other countries are trying to get out of the myre with some measure of pride and positivity.

Well said EGG. The more we talk ourselves down as a country, the more we shaft ourselves. Let's call a halt to Britain bashing and put a bit of positive spin into the equation [^]

I'd just like to say that this whole Hull-bashing thing is becoming oh-so-easy for many on here. Every man and his dog seems to be having a pop at Hull and its residents.

So, if you haven't tried slagging Hull off yet, why not give it a go? You might like it. It's a great way to meet like-minded friends and makes you feel vastly superior about wherever it is you live. Hull - it really is as bad as they say.

MY WHAT???[:w]

But never mind that...I'm here to shine a bright light of truth into this dark crag, the better to watch all the skittering comment roaches run for cover when they are confronted with the beauty and promise that is Hull.

That's right you bugs, you rats, you toads...escape whilst you can and take your prejudiced preconceptions with you. Let the humble be Humberside and the rodents rush into the water itself.

Shame on every single one of you.

Not the UK economy but there are an awful lot of similarities between our economies, this piece from the NY Times is interesting.
