Working nights here and so far up in Lancashire and there's about 3cm of snow but it's coming down thicker all the time at the moment. My work is about 15miles from MAN so not sure if there will be any disruption there tomorrow or not.

I just hope I can get home at 6am!!!!

Up early to get to the office before schlepping over to BRS to get my flight - what are you all on about? There's no bloody snow overnight in the South West [}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]

Horrible drive down the M11 to STN. Gritters are out but not quite reached the stretch around STN; not that much snow, but still not pleasant.

STN itself seems to be coming to life. Lots of yellow flashing lights on runway, and flights on boarding or final call notices. Ryanair has gone home in a sulk and cancelled most of its flights. Good news in terms of capacity management during the current weather, but b*gger all use for those families and school parties now sat around the airport wondering what to do.

Yippeee! If I can get the car out we're off to Richmond Park with the dogs for fun! SW London has had a good six inches (fnar fnar) and it's fab! Of course, no tubes, no buses, no trains, no gritters (wasn't it forecast a weany bit?) and unfortunately disruptions at airports (I think LHR is closing a runway at a time to clear the snow ...).

This country. PATHETIC.

ALL London buses cancelled.
All London airports affected.
Trains on reduced service.
Nobody (apparently) capable of driving more than 10mph on gritted, clean, motorways.

It's minus TWO, FFS. Minus TWO. And a few INCHES of snow. We're NOT in the bl**dy artic circle.

Ridiculous. [ii]

Calm down, dear!

Yes I do not understand why on Earth they had a blanket bus ban. The tubes were crappy enough this morning - no District line from South Ken so took the Diccapily to Holborn where the Central was already creeking at the seams with very long delays between trains and heaving platforms, so I walked the rest of the way. I regret not wearing walking boots though, my stilettos are ruined.

I think the buses are off because the local councils can't guarantee which roads are passable and which aren't... so TfL can't risk passengers being stranded somewhere... I didn't see any gritting lorries at all yesterday even when it was bitingly cold.

Now, I don't mind cancellations but what really gets my goat is that the train companies websites (namely Southern and SouthEastern) seem totally unprepared for this kind of thing, even though this kind of thing happens regularly (whether caused by snow, floods, high winds etc.)

So there's no way to check really. National Rail is showing some strange goings on at my station, but it's impossible to verify whether trains are running, diverted or suspended.

Wondering what the situation is going to be like at Heathrow in the morning if it is as bad as BBC say it could get. Anyone think there might be diversions happening??

Darren

Well our inbound BEG flights from CDG and LHR are cancelled so I presume the snow must be really bad. 3,4cm at least[:D]

Our car park is like an ice rink today so lots of people are not coming in. Several of my meetings have been cancelled - I really wish I hadnt bothered driving all the way in.

Totally agree about the buses though, given that we have been told for the past week to expecgt snow, you'd think that we could have been a little more prepared.

Thanks,
Sarah

Interesting fact on the news this morning:

During the BLITZ, the buses ran.
During snow, today, with ABS/better buses - errr.....?

I am gutted that the only 2 tubes I use to get to work are running this morning. I made it in, a little late as I was taking pictures [y]

The snow really does cover a multitude of sins, makes London look very pretty!!!

Snow ball fight at lunch-time I think

There are plenty of taxis in town are running fine, if you can find a free one! The cabbies must be loving it. Ch-ching. Oh, don't cabs use the same roads as the busses?

There's an nasty aroma of someone pulling the old 'elf and safety card.

Smaller vehicles... Given that there's no trains buses would be packed to the seams and just one accident... Questions would be asked. Of course accidents involving cars attract far less controversy. but back to my other point, National Rail showing, via mobile, that services from West Norwood are running with a few delays. I get to the station and the tracks are covered with snow and the station closed. There's been no services all day. But their website still is happily updating with phantom trains.

Sorry for the double posts, but just remembered that taxi drivers can take their vehicle home, but maybe bus drivers are struggling to get to and from the depots.

I saw a number of gritters in the Southwark area last night and they've managed to keep all the main roads clear. Since it's only likely to be one day then I agree with cancelling the buses. Only some drivers would make it in so those few buses running would be mobbed.

Well, my BRS-BRU flight was cancelled this morning - due to the snow warning in effect for the UK (the inbound from BRU didn't take off), which is a great surprise since there's only been light snow in the Brizzle area this morning.

Only options given were to try going via FRA this afternoon, arriving in BRU at 2205hrs (and what if FRA is buggered too?) or rebook on tomorrow morning's flight - they don't think tonight's flight is going to run, given the forecast is for it to get much worse. Rebooked on tomorrow morning's flight, but I don't hold out much hope given the forecast [}:)][}:)][}:)]

No problems on the roads, so am back home in Clevedon now, 10-15 miles from BRS, (at least I'm working from home the rest of the day), and there's a light dusting on the ground - FFS....[ii]

Cheers

It's chaos at Gatwick, no trains, no news... It's quite embarassing that we can't run a transport service when it snows a little bit. Off to try and work out how to get to London.

Well as I posted elsewhere (I think) here in Guildford we have been hit hard. I would say at least a foot on the roof of my car and when out walking this morning it was coming up to my knees (ok Im 5ft7 but still).

GF is happy as her school (along with all Surrey schools) is shut today and looking very likely for tomorrow. Walked past the A3 and it was very, very quiet.

Scrooge, pictures are now up on my FB of our morning walk through the snow. Will be posting some later over there for those that are friends with me and interested.

Well my trade show at the NEC is, for a usual Monday, deathly quiet. A tiny bit of snow and all buyers south of Coventry decide to have the day in bed. Annoyingly I'm here fir another three days. Zzzz!
