Oh...wait! There is actual footy today: the solid and respectable West Ham vs the greatest team in the world.

I thought West Ham were playing Man Utd today? Have the fixtures been changed?

You know, I have to admit it, before Ronnie's first free kick when the announcers were going all ooo-ahhh over his purported free kick skills, I said to the TV: 'He'll hit the wall. He always does. He's not so great on free kicks.' And he hit the wall.

Then comes that second free kick... [:w]

[oo][oo][oo]

Perilous times for Scousers...8 points back and no real reason to think they'll catch up. I can't believe I'm saying this, but we just may win the League this year. Or not.

So league is on its way back to Old Trafford, as I thought back when we started drawing with the likes of Fulham. Another year (sadly).

Hull seem to be in a bit of a free fall at the moment. Heard a cheeky rumour that Windass will be recalled to help them out. If they slip into the bottom 3 they do not deserve to go down. They have had some great results this season, unlike West Brom for example.

IMHO West Brom and Boro are down. Then it could be anyone of about 5 teams, although if Pompey went I would not be shocked.

CL this week was very interesting. Lots of debate on other message boards about the best result out of the English teams. Liverpool didn't play fantasitcally but did manage to win away from home, at a ground where if I am honest I thought we would be thrashed.

Gunners look very iffy with a one goal lead, against a ROma side who destroyed Chelski in the group stages in Rome.

Chelski look like going through, I cant see Juve putting two past them and Chelsea not scoring at all.

As for Man Utd, well well. As GJ has eluded to many times with Liverpool and all our draws this year, you dont get anything for playing well but scoring nothing. My heart wishes Jose goes along to OT and causes an upset. But looking at the amount of 1-0's United have scored this year (ie: luck with them) and the ease with which Liverpool cruised past Inter last year, coupled with the game being at OT, I think I can see United getting through.

As far as the other games, was suprised that Barcelona were not more convincing against Lyon. Surely everyone who qualifies will be hoping they get Panathinaikos out of the hat!

Yes, well done GJ on your team's victory. I would be concerned, that during extra time, you were playing against effectively 8 men with Dawson, King and Modric being walking wounded and the Mancs still couldn't score!

However, I now glad we can now concentrate on the League and not have any cup competitions to distract us.

Did like one of the adverting hoards which had 'in Arry we trust!'

Good Luck to the Mancs on the chase for 5 trophies, just hope that the no. of matches don't bite you on the arse!

MUFC have the best squad in the world (and that is hard for a Liverpool fan to say). No better highlighted by the lack of strength in depth that the other big 3 have. I am not going to bother discussing the Boro game, we were truly awful and again we suffered a continental hangover!

As for the Carling Cup, I listened on the radio. It came across that Spurs were unlucky not to score in normal time (thanks in part to Foster). Clear having seen the penalties this morning, that the experience of the Moscow shootouts helped United a lot. Spurs players looked absolutely knackered and as a result the penalty taking was not as good as it should have been IMHO.

However surely the lack of distractions will mean that Spurs will power up the table.

Display of the week was quite clearly Stoke, who have taken points off another top 4 team. Amazing come back.

Spurs haven't lost against the top 5 in the league either, apart from Villa![:w]Just can't get results against the teams around us.

Couldn't agree more -- the theme of this season has been 'MUFC can't finish worth shite' to be honest. If we do end up winning the league, it will be a defensive campaign that got us there.

Shouldn't that be when MUFC win the league?

Whilst some of your players have had a bit of a goal drought, other players who one would presume are a bit too old or play in the wrong position, have scored vital goals (e.g.: Vidic and Giggs). And that is the difference between you and the other three.

Shame to see Edwin concede such an awful goal last night. Back to the errors he made at the start of the season. Strange to think that back in September many were claiming that this year would be Edwin's last year at MUFC, I cant see him going after this clean sheet display.

As for Robbie Keane, just shows you if you play him in his best position, he'll get the job done. A goal and a hand in the other three goals proves it.

So was he, a Rick Parry's signing and someone that Rafa didn't want?

Was pleased to see Robbie get off the mark last night for Spurs, just a shame he could never really show his Spurs class at Anfield.

The whole Keane at Anfield saga is a difficult one for me.

I have lost a little faith with Rafa. Rafa knew the transfer policy before the summer, ie: he suggested targets and Parry goes and gets them to sign on the dotted line.

I believe Rafa was still annoyed at the failure to sign the likes of Vidic and Malouda (thank god we failed) in previous seasons.

The decision not to buy Barry was a purely commercial one (18m was too much for a player who wouldn't add anything 'extra' to the club). Rafa, I would presume, does not see the kind of financial information, the board and chairman does.

So Keane was signed because he would an extra dimension to the squad. On paper he was a good signing, as you very well know DA. However I think a number of things went wrong:
1. Rafa had a little paddy about the whole thing and viewed Keane in a negative light.
2. Keane and Gerrard liked to play in the same poisiton too much, ie: just off Torres.
3. Keane was too nervous (as I would be) at playing and scoring for the club he supported as a boy.

I think Rafa did sanction/suggest signing Keane although I think Rafa thought Barry would be the certain for Liverpool in 08/09 and Keane would be an added bonus.

We did right in cutting our losses in January. Having said that we should have, IMHO, bargained a bit harder (Lennon for example coming the other way) or entered into the market earlier for a back up striker.

I can't argue with any of your comments as I see you as 'The Voice of Liverpool' here and respect your viewpoint on that team (over mine, at the very least).

But...

I will say that, if the above is fact, then Keane is a twat...all I can tell you is that if I were given the chance to play for MUFC -- and given the pay packet that would attend -- nervousness would play a minor role. I'd be too euphoric and eager to let nerves win the day.

I'd be a Premiere League footballer, playing for my cherished side...to let nerves exert a leading role would make one a bit of a tragedy, IMO.

Just me tuppence...

I think it was a case of, as with most of these cases, the media saying 'you havent scored in ages', this then niggles away at one and hey presto ten games later you are still looking for a goal. The brain is very irrational sometimes! I would agree GJ, if I was given the chance I would attempt to not let the nerves rule me but having said that I guess we do not know what will happen until we got on the field.

On another note- DA/GJ any thoughts on Mr Cole's latest happenings?

Well, considering my dislike for manufactured pop, I really feel for Cheryl. I was listening to Radio 1 yesterday and she was talking about the Comic Relief Mount Kilimanjaro climb and she had been suffering from altitude sickness. She had obviously not heard that her 'husband' had got arrested.

As for Mr Cole, from the reports, yes, it looks like he just went too far but it's no excuse that because he is Premiership footballer, earning 80,000+, he should be treated different to Joe Bloggs. he is allegedly a role-model for young children and what a role-model (not!). It seems that he has a very short fuse and it won't be long before he gets in to really serious trouble.

Was it a gay bar he was at? It looks grotty from the pics...

But the real news today (in front of the MUFC v Fulham FA Cup tie...) is Spurs pulling one out of the hat at the very last minute. Only a point, but still...that man Keane stepped up.

GJ

UPDATE

Well, well, well. That was quite the show. Interesting to note that Chelsea beat a mid-table Championship side 2-0, whilst Manchester United beat a mid-table PL side 4-0. Seems the gap between first and second in the PL is about more than just seven points...
