Hilton LGW Hotel and Park and Fly

Hi -

couple of quick questions -

i. What is the LGW Hilton like - any suggestions ref rooms - I gather part of the hotel is old/part quite new?

ii. What is the Car Park attached/adjacent to the Hilton? I'm looking to do an honours points booking on the room and looks like I'll have to sort out the car park separately.

I'm on an early (07.45) ski charter so any suggestions welcomed, especially as I'm likeley to be there from 6.00 the night before.

Yes on the whole the hotel is on the old side. Rooms are not that great and quite small. However I stayed there last in April 2007, and I think there has been a part re-furb since then.
When I stayed I had to park the car at an airport car park about 1 mile from the hotel and then get a bus to the terminal and then walk across to the hotel.

The executive rooms are all in 'the new wing' which are all modern and nice. Have never stayed in the old part of the hotel, so couldn't comment on those rooms.

I last used the LGW Hilton two years ago (Executive room). OK -nothing spectacular.Car parking is off site.This afternoon, I've booked a 8 days parking (with meet and greet) and an overnight stay at the Crowne Plaza for not much more than the parking on it's own (via Holiday Extras).

I've also stayed there a few times (never parked my car though). Try and book an executive room if you can, as they are in the newer section of the hotel. The room was nice but a bit on the small side. It is also quite a trek from reception to the executive rooms if you have a lot of luggage!

Have stayed there a few times this year. Can only concur with the comments above. The rooms are generally quite small and the older ones are begining to look tired. At least the rooms are quiet.

Which terminal are you travelling from? I know it really doesnt matter but if you're in north I would really reconmend the Exec rooms at the Sofitel. Pricey but the lounge is amazing with great view, free booze (and soft drinks on tap - well they serve it to you), nice cheese board, lots appetisers, constant tea and coffee. In your room free minibar (yeh free - couple of half bottles white and red, beer, soft drinks and you can call them to refill it whenever. I really like the hotel and the staff are always great and welcoming you back.

If you're looking for a little off site, I still rate the Arora international at Crawley, direct shuttles plus the train as well if you wanted. They have some 8 night parking deals where the valet park and deliver it to you at the airport on your return for approx 89 for eight nights or 139 for 15 nights.

The rooms are large, food is always good and is always keen those overnighting and staff overnighting too.

I've been meaning to update this post for ages....

We eventually booked into the Hilton, got an Exec room in the new wing - very close to the lounge using HH points and was very pleased with what we got. The room itself was on the small side (especially with a cot in it) but otherwise v good. lounge was good - usual offer with canapes and nibbles and free bar/wifi. Not as good as the Munich or Sydney lounges (my current fave's) but ticked all the boxes.

Never saw breakfast as we were off v early for an Air Hamburg flight - first charter in over 20 yrs and was very impressed with their offer.
