I am trying to book a PE ticket to Nairobi leaving on the 7/3 and returning on the 13/3. On the VA website they still have a sale on Africa flights (659.00) until 03/03/09 night yet when I try and book, it comes up as a full W fare (1,948.00). I travel this route once or twice per month and the plane is always empty. I have also been into Expertflyer and VS671 on the 7th and VS672 13th looks empty (W7, S7, K7 etc.) I have spoken VA and they are unable to explain it.
Anybody got any ideas. Could this be a fault with their booking system?
Another strange thing is that Expedia offer the fare at 730.00 and I thought that VA had a price guarantee in place.
Thanks
Nick

Welcome to V-Flyer [y]

Did you speak to VS about this? I would imagine that it is a fault with the VS website if the travel dates are in range. Either that, or they have run out of sale fares.

Thanks,
Sarah

Yes I have spoken to VS and they can not explain it. Even if they have run out of sales fares (for the complete sale period!), there should be plenty of S class fares available.

The problem could be that you want to leave on Saturday evening and fly back on the Friday evening - so you are not spending a Saturday night at your destination.

AFAIK that is ALWAYS a pre-requisite to get discounted / sale fares.
If you don't stay Saturday night - the VS booking engine will only show full price J W and Y fares.

Nick, I thought that but if you try a dummy booking on the VS website with a Saturday night you still get the same price, so I think its a VS issue in not showing the sale fare advertised.

Thanks,
Sarah

They count leaving on a Saturday night as the Saturday night as I always depart on a Saturday and return the following Friday or Saturday. Even if this was the case, the fare leaving on the Friday and returning on the following Friday is still full fare even though Expertflyer indicates that there is plenty of availability.
I will wait until tomorow and see if it is a booking system fault, if not I can book with Expedia instead.

In that case, did the agent you spoke to log it as a booking engine fault?

If not, I suspect little will change.

It was a booking engine fault. The K class fares were blocked, so I managed to get my ticket for 659 instead of 1984.
Thanks for your help
