Hallo

We are flying PE to Cape Town next week and once again we have ended up with the worst seats on the plane. It happened when we flew to Shanghai last year so guess we were truly horrible in a previous life to have such bad luck again. We are right at the back between the loos. Trying to sleep with the lights coming on, squeaky doors and other passengers bashing the seats is impossible. Mainly the passengers were coming through the curtain so it was doubly annoying. Anyway enough moaning, could anyone tell me how early we can check in and if it is likely for any seats in PE to be released 24 hours before?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to V-flyer.

You can check in on line 24 hours before your flight when other seats will be released or alternatively you can check in at the airport as soon as check in opens at 6:00am or thereabouts

You are right, these seats are horrible and especially if you are paying full fare PE must be some of the worst value for money seats on any airline. I too abhor them and wonder why VS didn't place the loos centrally instead.

That said. Not all seats are prereservable, some are released on online check in, so make sure you do that on the nose to see what is available. Even then, if all look full get to the airport early and ask to be seated in row 18, the front of PE. Those seats can only be allocated at the airport. You may only get a choice of DFG but they're heaps better than row 23.

What day are you travelling, a check on Expert Flyer shows plenty of seats on Monday, a nearly full PE cabin on Wednesday, and an almost completely full plane on Friday (1J, 1W and 2Y left so should be a nice profitable flight) ...

My advice would be to check in online 24 hours before the flight. If other seats are available, grab them and print off your boarding card. It has always worked for me.[:D]

Indeed. I don't understand at all why VS place the loos on the outside. It reduces the number of window seats, as well as leaves these undesirable and, as you say, terribly poor value seats.

The best toilet blocks are those clusters of three or four you find on the 747 and some 777s. They are all centrally located, clustered around a cross-over aisle, and all the doors open into the crossover aisle.

This config reduces noise, odour and light pollution disturbance for those seated around the toilet area.

If it's not stupidity or sheer ignorance, the only reason I can think that VS have gone for this config is commercial, i.e. you can squish another 4 or 8 Y seats in this way.

Obviously, it's too late to change the fleet which is flying now, but what about future cabin reconfigurations, or new aircraft?

The only way I suspect would be sure to get VS to avoid this in future interior configurations is if everyone who ever gets one of those seats with a view into the loo wrote in and complained.

More bad luck. It will be a full plane as we are flying on Friday 13. Never really been superstious before. Thank you for the advice we will check in online as soon as we can.

The flight to CPT isn't full in PE, it is showing 3 seats in S and W. So fingers crossed that OLCI opens up some different seats for you.

Have a great time in SA, CPT is a beautiful city.

That is better news. Thank you.

Not so bad having horrible seats going somewhere that sounds lovely. Luckily our reserved seats coming back from Mauritius look okay.

Sorry Dominic and Fern, the flight is full in Y and has one free seat in PE with a few more in UC according EF:

J5 D5 R4 Z2 W1 S1 K0 Y0 B0 L0 M0 Q0 X0 N0

Very remote chance someone will be op upped and therefore some seating adjustments made. Note for future, get online and request seats very very early!
