i'm out here at the moment (due back saturday) and well, holy f***, what the hell has happened to Vegas? [n]

the place has gone down hill big time in just the 10 months since i was last here.

the service is almost down to british standards, with too many 'foreigners' being employed, a lack of staff (ie massive understaffing) places half opened and a general 'can't give a s*** attitude'. i feel like i'm back home half the time.[B)]

if it wasn't for the FEW decent people out here i would be tempted to cancel and go home early. [:(]

Oh dear. We'll be there in a few weeks.

Where are you staying? Is it 'bad' all over or just a few places?

Well places are cutting back bigtime, thinking the short term gain is better than the long term loss. Really I think half the execs just don't have a clue.

I will say Wynn/Encore have not cut back their staffing levels.

What I am seeing is people with senority being fired and replaced with new people on a part time basis to save on benefit expenses, so what you end up with is people who don't know what the hell they are doing.

Now I will say that there are a couple of the smaller places that have realized this and are now hiring the good people, the Sahara being one of them.

I was in Vegas in January, I thought it was me so I am glad you mentioned it.

It has changed vastly in a year with little or no customer service in some hotels.

Its not all bad news, you still get the annoying greeting/life story from shop assitants everytime you walk into a shop.

I bet the 'flickers' are still there in abundance.

There were definately more of them the other week on the Strip than I had seen before!

I was there just under 2 weeks ago... it's a lot, lot quieter and better for it. No long lines for taxis and check-in, the comp drinks are more than just once in a blue moon, and there is room to walk around and not get stuck behind huge groups of people going at snails-pace. I was in the Wynn and the Red Rock, and got upgraded in both, including a great suite in the wynn. Not sure how sustainable it is in the long-run but I enjoyed it a lot more.

I'm really surprised that the City 'Fathers' haven't passed a law against it as it pretty gruesome. I suppose that wouldn't fit with the 'adult playground' image.[xx(]

well MGM announced this morning that they were fu**ed because of their investment in the City Centre Project and are now selling T.I and laying off more staff.

Bally's are a typical example of understaffing, their '24' hour restaurant isso badly understaffed that food was not cleared and service took an eternity - the only good thing is that we are saving a small fortune in not having to tip any more.

BTW - the weathers lovely :-)

home tomorrow :-(

The WSJ says MGM Mirage is cutting back on the City Centre project and delaying the opening of the Harmon Hotel until 2010 also plenty of gloom for Wynn and others; Disney net income down 32%, ICH down 42% on net profits and Starwood down 46% with Marriott posting $10M losses - all bad stuff! LINK

They are immigrants who are found at various points on the strip. They have flyers in their hands that advertise establishments that offer a more 'seedier' form of entertainment. To draw your attention to the flyers they will flick the flyers in their hand like the noise when shuffling a pack of cards.

Always amusing when, as a couple walking past hand-in-hand, you get flicked continually.. oooh kinky...

I find it extremely irksome and somewhat insulting when cards are thrust in mr DL's face when I'm alongside. About time these lowlifes were removed. The street hookers seem to be moving further up the strip too.Blatant soliciting outside PH on our last trip.

As pointed out, they are not hookers, they are employed by the escort companies to hand out cards.

Also they will not be going anywhere I am afraid, their actions are covered by the 1 st amendment, the city and county has already tried to remove them from public property and the courts said no way, they can stay.

I know them as 'Porn Slappers'

I thought there were definitely fewer of them on the strip last week compared to my last visit in Oct 08.

Anyway, I'll proclaim the term 'porn slapper' to be the official name for them
http://www.urbanphotos.net/gg.htm

Google brings up loads on the same term too.
