Well I thought it was because Sun's destiny was that she should not return to the island. Jin was quite clear he did not want her to return. Also she didnt return as she wholly left the island (she came back without her child).
However a friend at work believes that it because Sun is the daughter of the Korean leader bloke (the guy who welcomed Jack last night and is on all the videos). She, like Ben, therefore cannot go back to 1977 as she is already on the island, in one form in 1977. He goes further to say the reason why Charlotte knows Korean is because either Sun or Sun's father taught her Korean c.1977 when she was a child!
Another work friend then disagreed saying Christian has work for Sun to do (like he did for John) and Christian shows people what to do.
Another great episode. The GF thinks I am mad being into a programme where they started off with a polar bear and are now time traveling due to an unexplained reason. I guess to the non-believers it is a bit odd on face value!
