I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere as part of other topics.
And as I don't know how to present a poll:

If you were/have travelled to MCO and want the most effective hire company, from registration to driving out:

1. Avis
2. Hertz
3. Dollar
4. Alamo
5. National

Previous times I've used Avis, but seem to be good deals with the likes of Hertz (however appear to be 'off site' via a bus [:?]), also mixed stories with Dollar.. And given bulk of VH pax are also likely to be with these, big queues [:?]

(Mods- if you could let me know how to post a poll [oo])

I really think that they are all pretty similar. We have used Dollar the last couple of times and they were excellent (plus we signed up for the free Dollar Express card, which is a god send for beating the queues).

I would suggest you have a look through some of the booking type sites, like USrentacar, uscarhire, airline network, the link on the VS site also, as 9 times out of 10 they offer the exact same package through the main rental companies for much cheaper prices. We used USrentacar this time and it was 180 cheaper than Dollar direct for the standard SUV, plus we also got lucky and got a free upgrade too.

Used Dollar several times as they are the cheapest on Airport, but they select the car for you. Most times the cars have been a bit of a dog !

More recently, moved to Alamo as you can choose the car / colour from a row of the grade you have rented & have sometimes ' made a mistake ' & selected the next size up.......... Never been challenged, though there may be a first sometime.........................

Have always used Alamo (something to do with a hefty discount!) and have always found them great. I also like the way you can pick your own car. Also 90% of the time, I have ended up with a better car than what I paid for!

Hertz have been very good for rates recently - FC members get a discoutn using the code on the back of your membership card. AmEx Plat/Centurion get more discount and Gold #1 CLub status which helps speed up service and upgrades. In the past, Holidayautos.co.uk used to have the most reasonable rates (broker for Alamo/National I found).

Yep I thought Hertz seemed good, although a Bus connection sounds a bit of a concern. [:?]
On top of the FC code, there have a WOW additional discount which brings their rates down considerably..
I Don't hold a corp Centurion card and my only real status is being a northern monkey [}:)] so going with published offers..
Holidayauto's I've risked before in Italy & Spain, but never really considered for US, but maybe worth a punt

Thanks

I've always used Alamo in MCO, booked through Holidayautos and have never had a problem with them. I like the fact that everything is completely pre-paid in the UK, including a tank of fuel (we normally return the car running on fumes!)

As has already been said, you get to pick your own car with Alamo and I've generally had very new cars with them. One year, the car had 120 miles on the clock when we got it, so we were probably the second group to rent it.

Having spent the last few days trying to sort a car out for a trip to Florida in September, i found that using the VA link in the FC section to the US car hire section worked out 190 cheaper for the car we want (convertible for 20 days) than any of the normal companies dollar/alamo/hertz etc even using their FC discount codes.

Will check out the US ones people have mentioned and if no cheaper will book with FC and get the extra miles ! [:)]

** edit **

having just checked the US mentioned car hire companies they are 70 cheaper than FC were for the same rental with the same supplier, and over 150 cheaper than booking with the hire company direct [:?]! I know where my monies going [:D]

I have always opted for Dollar and (touch wood) have little to criticise them on.

If you wat to avoid the queues, you can always pop over to the 'B' Terminal[}:)]

[y] - They are very good too, you can usually just pay a 50 deposit and the balance 8 weeks before and it really makes no difference when you get to rental desk at the airport, so it's money well saved.
