So after a lovely weekend our last day was here and we woke up to a snow covered Boston to which we decided that some last minute shopping was in order. After a hearty breakfast at the Waterfront Marriott we left our bags with the bell stand, checked out and made our way to a Mall in Cambridge which was recommended by the concierge.
Some hours later we were all shopped out and decided that it was time to get back to the hotel, pick up our bags and make our way to the airport. We got to the terminal just before 4pm which was obviously a little early as all the check in desks were closed and there was no one about. However after a few minutes a chap with a VS badge came up asked us what class we were travelling in to which we said UC to which he apologised that check in would be open in about 5-10 minutes.
Shortly after that a few more passengers started to turn up one of which was a woman who kept looking at us and started to make me feel uncomfortable. It was soon obvious what her problem was when she asked us if we realised that we were standing at a UC check in, to which I answered that since we were travelling in UC where else would we stand.
Of course she didn't say anything once she realised her mistake and although I wanted so say more to her regarding her attitude another chap had turned up to the desk we were standing at and welcomed us to Virgin Atlantic. A few minutes later he had logged on, checked us in and with CH invites in hand I gave 'attitude woman' a smile and we made our way to security. I was impressed that there was a clearly marked queue cordoned off for business and first class passengers but since there was no one else about we walked to the first machine and went through in less than a minute.
We've never been to Logan before and I thought it was quite nice. There seemed to be plenty of space and a good selection of shops etc. We walked down to the lifts to the lounges and then down to the CH. We were obviously the first ones in and they were just finishing off opening everything up so we settled down in the corner of the bench seat on the back wall for a few hours of relaxation.
For food they had a good selection of cold meats and salads and some hot clam chowder which was our first choice. This was followed by a mixed salad and a bottle of beer. A short time later the manager came over and introduced herself and told us that due to the delayed inbound flight we would be called around 20 minutes later than scheduled. Over the next few hours we enjoyed a few more nibbles, another drink or two (although Mrs M. took it easy after the experience we had on the way out) and a walk around the shops before we were finally called to the gate.
A we got out of the lift we saw that there was a separate line for Priority Boarding so we followed the other passengers and got in the short queue to get on the plane. Once on board we made our way to 9 & 10a and made ourselves comfortable. The UC cabin was about half full and after a few minutes the FSM came around and introduced himself. An FA offered us the customary drinks etc. while the final checks were made and then we pushed back. I think we left about 30 minutes late and after a relatively short taxi we were airborne.
I wasn't planning to have anything to eat because it was a short flight but when I saw that they were showing the latest Bond film and had flat iron steak I relented. The food was pretty good and once I'd finished I had my bed made up so I could relax and watch the rest of the film.
The flight was quite bumpy but despite this I managed to get a couple of hours sleep before the breakfast round was underway. After not being able to make my mind up between a sausage or bacon roll the FA suggested I have both since they had plenty spare to which I agreed. The bacon was dry but after a good dowsing with brown sauce it tasted great.
Then the seat belt sign went on and the announcement that we would be shortly be starting our final approach to Heathrow. We landed about 20 minutes later and after a short wait for another plane to clear our gate we were back in good old Blighty.
I think it took us about 30 minutes to get through immigration and collect our bags and since we weren't in a hurry we decided to go to revivals and have something else to eat before picking the car up and jumping onto the M4 for the short drive home.
Overall this was a good trip and the first for many years without any kids in tow so that made it different in itself. I can't believe that we saw 2 examples of poor behaviour/attitude from VS passengers (1 on the way out) who were both full of their own self importance. Some people need to realise that their sh*t stinks as well.
The CH in Boston was nice but it feels a little claustrophobic without any windows, the staff were nice and helpful as were the crew on the plane. So that's another trip over till we go to Washington in June, another place we've never been to and I can't wait.
