BBC 1 F1 Coverage

Just wondering what everyone thought of the BBC's coverage.

I didn't particularly enjoy Eddie Jordan, who may have a lot of knowledge about F1 but doesn't make a great presenter.

I also thought that the commentry would have been better if Brundle hadn't been interrupted all the time.

Anyone else ?

I thought all round it was pretty good for their first broadcast, yes there are things that need sorting but in the main they had a much better first outing than ITV did when they took it over.

I actually thought Brundle rescued the commentary, Ledgard seemed very nervous, he kept repeating himself and I got fed up the amount of times he told us lap times, something we can all see on the screen, he's not on the radio anymore! Brundle had to step in as main commentator on too many occasions for my liking, he is a pundit/expert and he shouldn't have to be doing the basics.

Eddie Jordan is quite annoying I agree, however I like the fact he is a bit different, not afraid to ask questions and give opinions, and I think he will improve as the season goes on.

All in all, a good effort, and no adverts, yey for that!

I thought Brundle was the star of the show, and as everyone says, saved the day with the commentary. I'm sure Legard will pick things up as the season progresses. Transferring from radio is a case of switching mindset, for certain.

Good set of pundits - with DC and Eddie Jordan - both 'old hacks' in the F1 area, and as everyone says, Jordan is not afraid to be controversial.

Hanging on to Ted Kravitz was a great move, essential to keep his good contacts in the pit lane.

Obviously great to have 'The Chain' back as the F1 theme music.

I enjoyed the coverage, but I wish they could have done the old-school playout of the highlights (and crashes) from the race to 'The Chain'. Instead the coverage just seems to finish.

I missed the actual race so when I got home to Belgrade I clicked the red button and full replay of this race was one. Result[y]

More Brundell insights and less Legard basics would be good, and it will take a bit of getting used to not having the commercial breaks.
I was expecting it to cut to a break everytime there was a little excitment building.

The 'Red Button' stuff is a definate plus.

Eddie is a great guy, met him on a few occasions, his 'impromptu' (well not really impromptu as they were planned but you get the drift)concerts after the British GP with Damon Hill and some of the other drivers were always great fun if you wanted to hang back and miss the traffic. He does have a different style from what you would expect as a commentator but has the knowledge and experience to bring some good insight into the new team.

Martin was, as ever, brilliant, thank goodness he decided to stay. Hopefully Legard will settle into it if not, I am sure changes will be made. Agree about Ted Kravitz he is very good in the pit lane and usually manages to be in the right place at the right time.

The red button is a bonus not that I used it on this occasion being able to time shift and watch the whole of practice and the race but it is good to know the facility is there!

I do hope the Beeb continues to show the full drivers press conference after the race, it used to annoy me no end when ITV only showed the winner or, on occasions, no part of it at all.

As Mike says it is great to have the 'proper' theme music back again 'Rumours' is still one of my fav Fleetwood Mac albums.

Well I thought it was very good first attempt. Jake Humphrey is currently doing a behind the scenes blog on the Beeb which is very insightful.

MB was the start of the show. I wish he had given a driver of the day. I would personally like to see the technical side of the sport shown a bit more in the pre race build up.

JL seemed to come into his own in the first lap where it was all go, go, go. HE will take time to adjust from doing the radio commentary.

I also thought that JH was very good. Considering he has been given a lot of stick prior to the first show I thought he was excellent and has a clear love of F1.

Felt EJ cut off the DC and JH a bit too much and didnt keep his comments short and sweet but overall much better than ITV.

I watched the boat race later on Sunday and it made me realise just how good the BBC cover live events.

Funnily enough I missed the adverts - at one point I wanted to make a cuppa but held back until the end of the race - completely forgetting the fact I'm watching using a TiVo ! I thought overall the coverage was OK but nothing spectacular. There were few in depth insights and I felt JL sounded like a bumbling old fool.
