It was very scary - there's no getting away from the fact BUT we were all very well taken care of on board.

At all times the Captain communicated with the passengers and although we knew we were making an emergency detour to Halifax he stressed at least twice that we were making a normal landing and we did. It was bumpy but it was normal. He also had warned us that emergency crews would be on the ground as a normal precaution in such circumstances.

I am pleased that we made our own arrangments hotel wise as we were tucked up in bed just after 4.15am - long before the majority who were bussed to the Westin.

In all honesty I was nervous about getting back on board but if the captain and crew were happy to get back on the same plane then there was no good reason not to follow suit.

Honey Lamb - Re the Uggs, I think they were the same pair as the summer BUT to be honest the little cherub has quite a collection. I am sure that when she gets married we will have to get a pair to match her wedding dress!

In the meantime still no word from Virgin - I had to ring FC as at the same time as this flight they removed 40,000 miles from my account. When I rang to ask why (I had bought the flights in the January sale so no miles spend) I was told it was an upgrade of two economy ticket to PE made at JFK. As this could not have been done by me the miles were re-credited to my account. Welcome to FC AU!

Meanwhile I am flying tomorrow and will admit to being a little apprehensive but hopefully it will be very uneventful.

Yes, I noticed there was a great deal of poetic licence in the report and a glossing over of facts with phrases like 'plunged into darkness'. No mention of the fact that the captain informed the passengers that he was turning off the lights. [V]

It is written somewhere - probably carved into a stone tablet, held in a secure underground bunker, somewhere off Fleet Street - that all British journalism about aircraft issues, technical problems, mishaps and accidents, shall contain the following:

1) The word 'plunged'
2) The word 'hurtle'
3) The phrase 'fireball', or 'ball of flame(s)/fire'

What I find harder to believe is that she would choose to board a CRJ and fly to BOS in appalling weather, rather than get on trusty G-VFAB. I don't doubt in a semi-hysterical state that she did this, but it probably worsened her fear, not fixed it.

To add, I think the crew did a first class job, according to the report here, and it's a real shame that they seemed to be let down by circumstance (a ground handling dispute) at YHZ, and by their airport-based colleagues at LHR.

That thought occurred to me too. A CRJ v a newly checked-out 747? I know which I would choose.

G-VFAB - isn't that the one you always seem to find yourself on, Mike?

Oh my. Very interesting. I think I would have needed access to fresh clothes if that happened on my flight!! :O

Comes in waves. At one point, almost always FAB. I seem to have been ROCed a lot more recently, as far as the 744 fleet goes, and mostly VELD as far as the 343 fleet goes.

(I've only been on two go arounds in commercial aircraft, and they have both been on G-VELD.)
