The WHO and FCO currently to not have any recommendations for travel restrictions to the US but the European Union's health commissioner, Andorra Vassiliou, advised people to postpone their travel plans unless 'it is very urgent for them'.

We are due to fly to Newark on Thursday and then onto Las Vegas from Philadelphia on Friday.
I am sure it will be fine but Mr. Vassiliou will surely be putting the wind up a few people!

Follow the normal rules of washing your hands, not having people sneeze in your face or licking handrails and you should be fine, the washing the hands is the big one.

In the US additional flu vaccine is being readied and the problem is being downplayed a bit; President Obama says it is 'not cause for alarm.' According to one news source Mexico does not have a nationwide viral detection system as in use in the US; therefore, more panic is likely.

Did you have a flu shot this year? You may be okay.

We flew into Boston yesterday and are heading down to NYC on Thursday. Having watched the news over here, I'd imagine that the media's reporting of the 'crisis' will have a lot to do with how people react. CNN (and the others I expect) need to be less sensational and more factual.

That said, we're quite happy in the glorious Boston sun! [8D]

Wonderful quote here from that wonderfully educated and PR Guru aka Michael O'Leary:

'
It is a tragedy only for people living... in slums in Asia or Mexico, but will the honeymoon couple from Edinburgh die? No,' he said.

He added that 'a couple of Strepsils will do the job'.

Where is that palm-to-forehead smiley when you need it!!

I'm not sure if that is plain stupidity or something much darker and insidious.

Reaction from the BBC 'have your say' includes

I'm a vegtarian so I'll be OK

I eat meat but not bacon / ham so I'll be ok

Ban all worldwide flights until the danger has passed

Ban all MEXICAN airline flights until the danger has passed (presumably on the basis that the virus has a 'fly mexican airlines only' policy)

Holiday flights to Mexico should be stopped (presumably on the basis that non holiday flights are immune)

All pax from afflicted areas ahould be sprayed with and made to drink bleach on landing in the UK (Ok I made the drinking bleach bit up)

The mind boggles ...

You missed the 'I pray each day and God is protecting me.' one.

HYS never ceases to amaze me and proves that some people should never be allowed an independent thought.

I liked 'We can avoid this 'pandemic' by getting a life and turning off the telly'

and

'I am sure that the next new episode of South park will guide us as to what to do'

The headline in the Irish Daily Mirror - 'Swine Flu Terror is in Ireland' Four people out of a population of 4 million are being tested and the results aren't even out yet!

Doncha just love the media? [:w]
