Hong Kong Hotel & Things to Do

Work colleague is having a 3 day stop over in HK on the way back from a trip to OZ at the begining of July.

Would appreciate any suggestions for a resonably priced hotel as well as things she could do.

I told her what an intelligent, helpful and good looking bunch you were so no pressure!

Not sure I can help with hotels as after falling in love with the Landmark MO my eyes cant see beyond that place [:)]

There is loads to do in Hong Kong but I expect the top things will be the Peak Tram and the Star Ferry. A trip to Hong Kong Disney or the Big Buddha at Lantau are also great trips out, easily done by MTR. Then of course there is Kowloon and the little shops and markets at Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui, and the bars in Lang Kwai Fong. Oh, and the wonderful food everywhere .... [:)]

Dont forget the nightly firework display at 8pm from the skyscrapers around the harbour - its free and great to watch from a hotel bar if you are staying close to the harbour.

There are LOADS more tips and things to do, I am sure others will give you their opinions. I just love Hong Kong. [:)]

Dont forget the worlds longest escalator.

Stanley on the south side of the island is worth a visit. Its only 40 minutes by bus from the city centre bus station. There is a seaside feel to the town and there is a good market too.[y]

I stayed in the Renaissance in Kowloon, which wasn't bad - not cheap, but not over the top (triple VS miles had nothing to do wit my choice off course [:I]). It was convenient for the MTR - though not on a direct ink to the airport. Plus you get a great view of the light show from just outside the hotel.

As for things to do: food, The Peak, food, bars, shops... In three days she'll not run out of stuff t see or do. Can't wait to get back myself.

I'd recommend the Peninsula in Hong Kong as one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in anywhere. But since this is the second Peninsula recommendation I've placed on the V-flyer website, I'd better confirm that I'm in no way connected with them - they just have damned fine Hotels and know how to use them. Even if you don't stay in the Peninsula, you could add tea at the Peninsula to the list of things to do....

And it's just across the road from the Renaissance...

if your budget is a little more modest, I can thoroughly recommend the Novotel New Century. A great location (two mins walk to the trams and ten min walk to ferry across to Kowloon). Stayed here in feb for around 70 a night

The peak tram is great, as it being on the sea wall at Kowloon at 8pm (get there 30 mins before) for the Lights

On our last visit we were at the Conrad, good location just in Admiralty but easy walk into Central or Wan Chai,fantastic service and an absolute bargain at less than 100 a night.[y]

I was there a few years back on my way home to see family. We stayed at the Intercontinental on Kowloon, and booked a Club Room, the views over the Victoria Harbour were amazing and the light show is great.

We are going back in November for 2 days and will be staying on the Island. Haven't booked a hotel yet, but do like the look of the MO!

There is really heaps to do, shopping, great food, The Peak, Star Ferry, Lantau Island (Big Buddha, Disney)Certainly won't be bored.

Hotel wise, we were blissfully happy at the Four Seasons; a truly stunning hotel.

As for 'things-to-do' I'd echo what others have said with Peak/Ferry/Disney and probably throw in a wander around the jam-packed streets of the Mon Kok district, which delivers more atmosphere than you can shake a chopstick at.

Island Shangri-La gets my vote.

whilst looking at our own options for Nov, noted Trailfinders, and likely others have some good upgrade/ free night offers at a variety of the places listed above, for those staying 3 nights +

Hi,

I am debating between the 2 Intercontinentals in HKG. There is the IC Grand Stamford and the IC on salisbury road. The later costs like 2.5 times more than the former. Is the Grand stamford bad? I was thinking maybe stay 5 nights in Grand stamford and maybe 2 at the more expensive one?

Also how close is the MTR station from both hotels?
