Would love to know the same.

Fingers crossed, I intend to be there in October this year but I havent booked anything yet. There is some good information on FlyerTalk with regards to places to stay. The general consensus seems to be that its easy enough to hire a car and drive around yourself once you are there, or get a private guide if you want some history on the Moai. Most of the guesthouse owners do tours themselves.

Getting there requires flying on Lan Chile either from Santiago or Papeete. The flights are not cheap either but if you have BA/AA miles you can redeem them on this flight and it works out to be very good value. You may find it easier to work Easter Island into a RTW if you have the time, or look to get to Santiago VIA Miami? Iberia fly to Santiago VIA Madrid.

I would definitely make the trip if you can, its been a dream of mine for a long time. Perhaps make a big trip out of it by going to Machu Picchu as well?

Thanks,
Sarah

When I flew to Santiago this year I went with BA/LAN via Sao Paulo - relatively stress free as long as you make sure you do not leave airside at Sao Paulo (as they will charge you a $100 or so departure tax to get airside again!)

Santiago is a nice city - recommend you check it out for a stopover on your journey.

Thanks, it does sound a bit of a trial getting there. Done Hawaii so I guess its just the same really. Except not sure how much time you would want to be there.
