R Fare Code

I thought the R code wasn't used by VA, yet my latest booking is an R.

Just curious as to what it means.

VS starting using the R fare code last year. It is a discounted UC fare, priced between D and Z, it does not qualify for a CDC.

Yesterday they brought out a new Upper special offer to USA BOS/IAD/CHI in R class. Rare but not unheard of and a good way to manage their yields by having good headline special offers in Z class but still some good value ones in R
