Have tried a booking to SF in July on unitedairlines.co.uk, and it comes out as 1,102.90 (yes, even LESS than those fares). OK, so it's not a 'suite', but hey - I can't sleep in the UCS anyway...

Ahem - WAKE UP VS.... [:0] [:w]

But Paul, have you seen the food on UA, I mean ok it tastes good, but it doesn't have a fancy name or description [V] who cares about taste if it doesn't sound right [n]

Ok being serious, any idea's how far they are along with their cabin revamp ?

Though you wouldn't catch me dead in UA Y, F and C are looking good, it's just that the revamp is not that wide spread right now...I think ?

Paul

You are absolutely right that VS (and others for that matter) need to keep an eye on the competition[:w]

Would be nice wouldn't it[}:)]

If you go to: http://www.suitedreams.united.com/

and then click on the 'fleet progress' link it says that 41% of the fleet is done, although they have not done any of the 777's yet.

The 795 to NYC is a bargain other than them not having any direct flights there (or to Boston for that matter).

If it was extended to September I would be sorely tempted.

You can see if your flight has the new suits from the ickle seat maps

All the International config 767s are done now (or the last couple are being done), this makes LHR-ORD (all three trips on the 763) a safe bet, and there's two LHR-IAD trips on the 763 (including the daylight eastbound IAD-LHR).

They are also making good progress on the 747-400 fleet, but none of these are working LHR flights at the moment. Originally, 954/955, one of the LHR-SFO flights was slated to go 744 for the summer, but it seems to have stayed 777.

The 777s are due to start any time now. They have been delayed, because the plan is to refit the Y cabin with new PTVs as well (unlike the 767s and 747s, which kept existing IFE equipment).

Apparently, the first aircraft to go through the overhaul will be from the non-ER ('A' market) fleet, which commonly work LHR-IAD.

You are right Mike, and I think right now 777s are due to start in September. 747s are refitted on the SFO-FRA route, so you might be able to get a load of the new experience by selecting that routing. United did let me pick it when I recently tried it out, and the pricing did not increase substantially, though it does mean a connection and a much longer flight time, of course. I prefer the 767s because of the oft-repeated point about having people climbing all over you in the 747 config. I actually sleep pretty well on the old 777 seats - though it has to be said I sleep pretty well on a hard wooden cold floor.

Had several flights with UA this year, one with VS. Pondering what to do about an upcoming July trip myself ... pricing a trip to LHR at a shade over 2800 dollars, and if I decide to go straight to Italy it'll be only 2900 and change. Which is just silly. I'll miss my gold renewal (and perhaps the opportunity of being on the same flight as a v-flyer), but will make 1K. It's a really tough call.
