I'm looking for WorldWide Travel Insurance (Annual) and my current insurer, erm, Sainsburys appears to have increased the 'Family' premium from 88 to 125...

...the next best value seems to be Mondial or Atlas Direct, but I was wondering if there were any recommendations?

There are two pre-existing medical conditions, one does not require treatment (some insurers actually say it can be ignored), the other is controlled-asthma.

Who do you use?

I get mine from Club Direct whoi I found using the quote search on http://www.moneysupermarket.com

I think the policy I have is good value for a single person annual world wide policy.

If your family is just you and your other half then seperate adult policies might be cheaper - just a thought

Virgin Money. 6.67 a month. Chose them as they covered hiking above 2,000 meters without paying silly money for it.

I agree about having a look on the price comparison type of sites, there are so many policies out there, it gives you a good opportunity to compare a few and decide which is best. Before I had my Plat cover I used to use them and I would go for a mid range type policy.

Have ended up with Colombus Direct for the last three years, 38 for worldwide annual cover(no water/dangerous sports) for us (a couple).

Secret is to shop around and read the T&C's very carefully as a mistake can be costly.

I'd echo Darren's comment. I was offered 'free' travel insurance from my bank (HSBC), but on carefully reading it excluded ALL holidays for 'activities' (except Golf). So if you went on a walking holiday, a cycling holiday, or even a knitting(!) holiday you were excluded from everything, not just medical. So if you were mugged and lost your watch on a knitting holiday, tough luck!

I'm amazed they're allowed to call such scams 'insurance'

Well the credit crunch continues. My wife's company has just cancelled another benefit, our subsidised annual travel insurance policy. So we now need to sign up with someone else and where better to ask that the travel gurus in this fine place.

Any suggestions?

Just bought a policy with Virgin money, 113 for the year worldwide for the 2 of us, not the cheapest but the benefits seemed a little better than most especially on the acceptable activities.

I keep on getting great rates and good cover, and as soon as I mention asthma (completely controlled btw) the rates vanish or they won't cover it.

I've had the cover via AmEx Platinum and Centurion for the past 9 years. I do think you do get what you pay for at times with Insurance - Platinum is a good product if you have a large family or a number of siblings, as anyone that has a card on the account (and you can have an additional 5) gets cover for themselves, their partner/spouse o any kids under 25 - that's every cardholder; so my mum has a card on my account, and it covers her, my father, and my younger sibling. So yes its 300 a year, but when you factor in the number of people that you could have on the account, and the fact it covers car rentals too as above (and any 5 other people travelling with you) it is a bit of a steal.

I agree with Richard, I've had American Express Travel Insurance (bought independently of the card) for many years. They have some basic low cost options but reading the T&Cs and comparing the select and premier insurance has lead me to think the coverage is better than many other policies.

Be VERY VERY careful of T&C/ Coverage/ Exclusions....as mentioned a few time already

A cheap policy could end up costing you a small fortune
