hi all could anybody confirm if this is correct or had any experience of below .
i just phoned vcc and asked why had i been charged interest on my account this month the reply given to me was "you transfered a balance from your egg card for the promotonal rate of 0% untill december but because you used your card for retail items you have been charged interest as you did not pay the full balance off you should have paid the transfer and the retail items to stop you getting interest on your account".
so is it my understanding that you can only get the 6 months interest free if you no longer use your card for retail items but only pay off the balance transfer that i did from egg .
the man on the end of the phone would only say to me "it,s all in the terms and conditions"
i have never known this before seems like a complete con but i suppose i should have got my magnifying glass out and read the terms and conditions booklet as this does not say anything on the web about this when i did the transfer.

Charges, they are very good at. I had a late payment of 1 day and they smacked a £25 fee on[:(!]
I was not a happy bunny so it would not surprise me about their interest charges.

Hi there,

I can remember hearing about this kind of thing from that 'money chap' on radio 2. Apparently it's pretty much standard and it won't be just Egg that do this (who BTW have put up there interest rates Again!).

I got charged £25 in interest the other month because my payment (I always pay of the full balance) went onto the card the day the payment was due, and not before??? Needless to say, I was refunded the £25 and the chap at Accucard was very nice about it and appreciated that I was a good customer. :D

The same happened to me when I first got the VCC. I transfered a balance and made some purchases. I seem to recall the explanation was along the lines that payments made were set off against the items with the lowest interest rates first (i.e. balance transfer) hence the retail purchases will attract interest until paid off in full, which won't happen until the balance transfer is paid off first. Managed to get those initial interest charges refunded, but then had to decide whether to use the card for the 0% balance transfer or retail spending to collect miles. Have since noticed in the small print that some CC's offer promotional rates on either balance transfers OR purchases and a few actually offer the promotional rate on both.
