Check in went well, the operator was very friendly and chatty which was a great start. Took the lift up to the dedicated security channel which was a breeze. After the obligatory nose through duty free I proceeded to the Clubhouse. It was busy which is always the case at that time of day (7pm). I was familiar with the offerings in the Clubhouse so proceeded to the far end just near the kids crche and plonked myself down.
Apparently, there is an unwritten rule in the Clubhouse that anyone sitting at the far end does not wish to be served. Either that or they have fitted all seats in that area with invisibility cloaks. Those are the only reasons I can think of to explain why it took 30 minutes for anyone to show up to ask if I would like anything [:)]
Did finally have my order taken and chose the scrambled egg and salmon. Very nice too!!!! Spent the rest of the time surfing and reading those fascinating massive sports books in the library. Wonder where they buy them?
Cant remember which gate we were boarded at, may have been 26. Got to the gate and found that just 1, yes 1 agent was there checking boarding passes. In addition there was no mention or semblance of a priority boarding queue. At this point I was beginning to miss BA.
Anyway Im happy to say that this was the last point at which I experienced any bad service. Once on board the cabin crew were all over us. Drinks aplenty and smiles all round. I began to think I had boarded the wrong aircraft. Were the crew on the Lagos route actually smiling???
Took off half an hour late but not a problem as the captain informed us our flight would be 5:30 long. Fastest journey I have ever made. A lovely dinner was served, of which I chose the Jollof Rice as main course and Berry Pavlova for desert, opting out of a starter. I was asked if I should be woken for brekkie but chose to sleep through. Did spend a couple of hours watching the Benjamin Button movie which put me to sleep (sorry Brad!!!)
On landing in Lagos again everything went very smoothly. The air conditioning in the airport was working well and for the first time that I can remember the priority luggage system actually worked. My 3 cases were amongst the first 20 pieces to come out. Believe it or not I was out of the airport 30 minutes after landing. Couldnt ask for better timing!!!! Yep, VA certainly won me back with this trip!!!!
