iPhone - sending MMS's whilst roaming

This is just something to be aware of if you are roaming with your iPhone (even with data roaming switched off).

You are still able to send MMS's with data roaming turned off (even though the text under the data roaming option in settings states you shouldn't be able to). I wonder if if just stops you receiving them?

You will get charged a data roaming charge as well as the MMS coming off your normal text allowance in blocks of 4 (contract users).

From the US, sending 1 MMS cost me 0.43p. Now I realise, that that exactly going to break the bank but just something to be aware of.

If you turn off data roaming, you should still be able to send and receive texts and MMS, as they aren't considered data. This is how every other phone seems to operate.

I'm not sure if it should or not. UK iPhones use the same new APN for MMS (idata.co.uk) as for cellular data so in theory, having data roaming turned off should prevent sending MMS's but it seems it doesn't.

If you have the 3GS and you send video as MMS (which I think you can do) your roaming charges will likely be higher as well.

It does state under the data roaming option in settings that 'Turn data roaming off when abroad to avoid substantial roaming charges when using email, MMS, web browsing and other data services' [:?]

Of course I do have to ponder the thought that isn't it great that a UK iPhone can send an MMS in the US, but a US one cannot.

I was sending one from on the ferry to the Statue of Liberty yesterday and it was generating a bit of interest from an American guy also asking me how I was able to do it!!!
